It's hard to explain how excited I got when I saw that! Opeth is such a great band, and I think they're on the right track with Heritage. That video is taken down that you put up but I'll have to hear it somewhere else for sure.

After finding it on Spotify and listening, I actually listened to it again two times. I can't wait for the rest of the album to be released! Their overall musical greatness is just undeniable I think.

Also, I love Santana. You're absolutely right, that's simply one of those genre defining albums...

As for what I'm currently listening to:

I just started checking them out today. I had heard one or two songs before that caught my attention but I just never really made it a priority. After listening and reading around, they definitely are weird, but I'm totally in love with some of their tracks.

Thanks for the kind words, Banafrith! I love Type O Negative, very distinctive sound and style,,,unfortunately their vocalist and leader Peter Steele passed away a few years ago!

Yeah I saw that. At least they decided to not continue the band without him. Seems like common sense to me, but it's happened before and it's ruined bands far worse than ending would have.

JOE BONAMASSA "black rock" cd, 2010

career stats:
studio albums......10
live albums..........11

this album: #39 US,#1 US blues,#22 UK

now im not a blues guy generally, infact i think the genre leaves a lot to be desired in that there are limited ways to do 'the blues' before it no longer becomes 'the blues'(reggae is the same sort of thing IMO).
anyway, my mate Corey recommended this one to me just after it was released, i hesitated with it being blues/blues rock, but Corey says "i know its blues but i got a good feeling you'll like this one"....oh-oh, mistake #1 when a guy recommends albums albums to you sooner or later he'll stuff up...and he did here for me(one of only a couple he ever got it wrong big time IMO!)!
anyway...Joe Bonamassa, blues rock singer and player....only 37 years of age, yet, has already released ten studio sets, is held in high esteem by the likes of Rory Gallagher,Clapton,BB King and Stevie Ray...so i guess he must be very good at what he does.
BB even makes a cameo on this album on one track "night life"...there's certainly a connection there because they appear to feed off eachother's skills as bluesmen.
but thats not my favourite track, that distinction belongs to a slow number called "quarrymen's lament" which also happens to be the best thing on here...
a couple of covers on here also Jeff Beck's "spanish boots"(ive never heard the original so i cannot compare),not that it matters because i do not like it anyway...
and a cover of Leonard Cohen's "bird on a wire", sorry, but Cohen owns this one and again, i do not like the cover at all.
i also hear quite a bit of Led Zepplin sounds here in touches of "kashmir" and "stairway to heaven"...i guess its a blues thing???
all up, i guess this one is one for the fans of blues rock but sadly, not for me

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: blue and evil
best track: quarrymen's lament

Yeah I have to agree with basically everything you're saying here. I had never heard of him before, but from listening around... I mean, it's music, and I guess there's at least some semi skilled guitar work but his stuff just sounds really cut and dry to me. I only listened to a few songs but I jumped around quite a bit and there doesn't seem to be much deviation from the same ol' good ol' sound. There's something lacking in vocals too. Never been a fan of the whole no real power, trying to be scratchy type vocal styles.

When I think of Joe Bonamassa I just think of one of the greatest blues rock singers around these days...Beth Hart...who has released a live and studio album with Joe!
