I am a die hard Opeth fan! Saw them live and they did not disappoint! They have a new album Pale Communion out in August...this is a song from it...reminds me of Crosby Stills and Nash in some instances with a great Yes feel!

Yeah, I'm officially sweating it out waiting for this album to come out. I think I'm going to get one of those pre-order specials.

Damn near any jazz artist would fulfill. They are not usually locked into some group with mediocre members from Bupkis, Iowa so the better ones are free indeed forced to play with those better than themselves. Sink (back into that weekend Holiday Inn gig) or swim ( with the better artists that swing through their area). So, but you want pop? Delbert McClinton got progressively better especially as a songwriter, and John Fogerty, once he got rid of the deadweight. Bonnie Raitt. Any others I could mention are mid-career and may slip back into the morass eventually. Hope spring eternal.

FAT FREDDY'S DROP

This musical little band hailing from Wellington, New Zealand are one of the finer acts on the music scene I have had the pleasure to listen to lately. Their music is any combination of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, and techno. And boy do they do it well. They originally started out as a jam band, dazzling folks in their homeland with their slick improvised live performance. The members however began to gradually focus on the group and with that began to produce absolutely beautiful music. They have released three studio albums and recorded two live albums that I know of. And you can hear from their debut to their latest release the improved artistry (if that's even a word) in their music. I love listening to these guys anywhere and at anytime, whether it be with my first morning coffee or my weekend countryside drives. Fat Freddy's Drop always promises to deliver.

Wow!! Did not expect to get replies on this thread anytime soon. I think I'm going to enjoy this forum! I have, so far picked up the debut albums of both the artists recommended. Bill Nelson, "Northern Dream" and Opeth, "Orchid." I have to admit, I enjoyed them as much as I would a serving of choc chip ice-cream. And that's a helluva lot. Look forward to picking up more of their albums. It seems my request is a bit of a head scratcher, so I'll swing a few of the artists I think fit this section at you guys. Though I'll dedicate an entire post to each of the artists, once I learn the fine art of attaching youtube vid links.

And as for the "Youths" question. A requirement to be a cunning linguist, is to have stunning english.

Jeepers ! Bill has put out well over 100 cd's since Northern Dream !. That's one I don't have because I didn't like it that much .
I'll post when the new one comes out, a collab with Tin Machine's Reeves Gabrels . Lots of wild guitars , from what they're saying .

Yeah just looked through Bill's discography and it's a task that would seem a little daunting. Maybe if you recommend his finer works, it will give me a better starting point. I agree with you that Northern Dream isn't one of the better debut albums I've heard, but it's got this charm to it that drew me to listen to the entire album.

It's a very hit-and-miss adventure for me. I only end up ripping and listening to a few tracks per cd, but with 100 cd's , that adds up to a lot of incredible tunes. I'm very, very picky about what I listen to, and Bill has so much to choose from , stylistically. I'll check the list of what's current on his site , and also mention ones that are out of print but worth looking for .

but you may like a completely different group. The ones I named are among the more lively,
accessible ones. Many of his fans like his more introspective, mellow work . Many recent ones have too many
'pop' sounding vocal tunes for me, or smooth, jazzy stuff .

Another thing was that it took me a few years to get used to his music. Much that I didn't like at all at first
turned out to be old favorites, and what I did like at first is among my favorite music by anyone. I've been fairly
hardcore collecting him for about 15 years.

- Noise Candy (6 cd set that's going to be re-issued at some point)
- The Romance of Sustain
- Love That Whirls

It is strange .... most of it (tunes) I never listen to (do not like) , but the ones I do like, I REALLY like .
He's definitely worth putting some effort into ; a real thinking-man's artist . As far as a body of work
and especially as a maestro of juicy electric guitar sounds , I don't know of anyone that compares .

I completely agree! It wouldn't exactly be right to label these guys as getting better with age, seeing as they have been around for only 9 years and are as it seems to me are in the middle of their career. But they do age well and they do fulfill my need as artists that have me snatching up their new albums because it's guaranteed quality. Although, God forbid they may have later releases that could disappoint. Which was what happened to Radiohead for me.

I'm gonna say Brandy. She's an R&B singer. This girl can sang! She came out in1994 at 15 years old I think and she has improved with every album. She's always perfecting her craft. She has influenced alot of people in the industry so much that they study her albums and voice. If you guys don't know her, check her out. She's awesome!
