i was recommended this one by Corey some time ago...
music has a few obvious influences happening in the form of John cougar/Mellencamp,Black Keys and White Stripes in places..
its generally alt rock with a bit of americana with country tinges.
its not bad,nothing great on here and really not much too aweful that its unlistenable.
i love the guy's vocals, they have a distinct Mellencamp feel happening.
the album,like i said, is ok, but its nothing to get me interested in the restof their catalogue!

the other Elvis' nineteenth album....
the first one to feature The Imposters as his backing band...but they were essentially The Attractions minus original bass player....
lots of great sounds on htis one...some tracks like "45" hark back to the old New Wave sounds he was making in the late 1970s,
other tracks are more acoustic and melodic,like fans had grown accustomed to over the preceeding decade and a half...
all up, another very good album from an artist who survived the whole UK punk scene to flourish into a well respected,well versed and classy musician, and still does to this day!

ELVIS COSTELLO "national ransom" cd, 2010

the twenty-nineth studio album from Elvis Costello in thirty-four years...
i still find it amazing that someone who should be an embarrassment after that long in his career is still churning out quality material that is fresh and new sounding...
i mean, the guy has not made a bad album that i either own or have heard no matter what style his muse takes him through, and this one is no exception...
still has classy,intelligent lyrics, his vocals are still spot on as he weaves his way through a series of styles/genres once again...
we have ballads,country, country'rock,rock and a touch of vaudvillian sounds here and all blend perfectly alongside eachother...
once again, not a single bad track on this album(as is the norm with Coastello, as he produces a quality product...
i love the album cover art also, but it loses its effect in a jewel case...would love to see this one as a vinyl cover,but sadly never have.
all up, another good album by "the other Elvis"...

as we go back in the annuls of time to Elvis' early years,
this time, his second album is full of his so called "classic" sounds...
from the punky/new wave overtones of "pump it up" through to the almost ska sounds of "chelsea"...
only one song on here that i do not like, and thats a rarity for me with Mr.Costello, who incidently should have got some sort of award from the Queen by now for his servics to music(OBE/CBE or even a knighthood!)
album rates in those "all time" album lists coming in at #98 on Rolling Stone magazines top500 albums of all time, #82 in the list of greatest albums of all time in the UK and #11 on the Rolling Stone list of "greatest albums between 67-87"....
this is great Costello with twangy guitar riffs,thumping drum beats and venom spitting vocals and lyrics...
not my favourite album by Costello(even though i love it) but a pretty good place for the casual listener to start if they want to hear some very good late 1970s UK music...

Bought this for the Paper Planes track. Hard time liking anything else. Raised in Sri Lanka but she's a world traveler and those influences show
on here. It was recorded in India, Trinidad, Liberia, Jamaica, Australia, Japan, and the UK. Hard to nail down a genre other than to say that
dreaded world music tag with a lot of electronic. In my only love track, I think it's the shotgun and cash register sound that sucks me in,
along with the words all I want to do is take your money. Too bad nothing else comes close to that. I wasn't even going to risk a follow up
purchase, not even in the discount bin.
