What Evans is doing is unknown to me but Denny Zager has had a distinguished career as a builder/repairer of guitars: http://www.zagerguitar.com/

About that time, another group relocated to Detroit from the Southwest (Arizona, I think)--Alice Cooper but they had a few more hits.

Teegarden's whereabouts are unknown but Skip Van Winkl is layin' in on the keys in this hot-boppin' outfit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKM8ea7xS04 << Tell me that the drummer doesn't have a marked resemblance to Michael J. Fox

And they or a version of them is still doin' it. Here's the Website: http://96tears.net/ << This has a snippet of this perf (I'da paid strong dollars to be in this room) >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSURe8Iw6dg << Da Brudda looks good for his age and doesn't he sound more than a bit like that still-frenetic septuagenarian Brit rocker? Here's that song by somebody else: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9eXNXN6MyY << he didn't just discover this song--he's been doing it since 1980...and he sounds a bit like the Mickster too.

Again, as with a previous mention, this was the big hit but not the only one. They have been staples individually or in groups in North Carolina music since forever.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chairmen_of_the_Board

This group, the first multi-racial British group to hit big, only lasted 4 years; the lead singer, Clem Curtis, though, still tours. BTW I've never seen such poor syncing between music and vid. Damn near unwatchable. Try this instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZbHdVYCVhI#t=36

now time for another one hit wonder...

This one works (sorry about the commercial but that's VEVO--merchandising their cheeks off): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqnw5IfbZOU
That was not their biggest-selling song, which leads me to be curious as to why this group was included here:

Their site (remarkably enough most of the originals still tour with'm).: http://www.romanticsdetroit.com/ << mainly casinos and music package engagements.
Just for a hoot, I thought I'd throw this in the mix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nQorN4gSVQ << There's others in this series--pick your decade and romp.

Very interesting are the complementary choices YouTube proffers at the end. This was by far their best single and only important one. Remember, though they were only really together for 2 years; most went on to brilliant, fufilling careers (founding members of top-notch groups or as songwriters/movers-and-shakers or both).: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Springfield
ADDED next day: A special treat--a reunion benefit concert in 2010: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtrPo3W-QjM << the vid for the concert starts about 4:00

They had the first big hit for those Philly guys, Gamble & Huff. I owe them just for that. They all went on to, shall we say, different careers.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Soul_Survivors
Best version I know of is a version by a current Latin jazz/soul master bandleader/timbalero, Edgardo Cintron, featuring (you guessed it) a South Philly Italian-American singer. Breathtaking! and the discs go out cheap on your usual sources--seriously, folks, look'm up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTnYRYhtLt4 << this is not the singer on Sr. Cintron's discs, Back in the Day and Latin Soul but it'll do. Off the disc, a serious taste of magnificence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4KF0P1Bt9U << but hey don't take my word for it: http://www.allmusic.com/album/back-in-th...0000345404
I hijacked the bejesus out of this post. Apologies all 'round.

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:i have just pulled out my UK 'music bible' and they describe a 'one hit wonder' in the UK as "an artist who has had one charted single entry which peaked at #1 and no other chart placed single release"

my Aussie 'music bible' states...."an artist who has only had one top20 hit"

i dont have a book of US chart hits anymore(its got lost in the house moves ive had over the years), so i cannot qoute what the US definition of a one hit wonder is?!

but from the UK/AU definition, the definition is different is different countries....so there is no official definition really, i guess we can all assume it is what we believe it to be...so confusing,so 'grey', so stupid!

Here's a Billboard site that may help ease the strain: http://www.billboard.com/charts
To show you how subjective these definitions, this designator can be: If I think a person/group had only one hit, they only had one hit. And vice versa (no, not dirty Italian poems). Why let another person or entity shape your taste or opinion? Slavish devotion to be in the "In Crowd", self-selected? This can lead you to crowd out a lot of other good stuff by these folks that you might like better, that don't have the sales imprimatur/seal of mass approval.
Not saying this isn't fun because it is--mainly 'cuz it's lead me to some fascinating off-trails (Garland Jefferys' "96 Tears", e.g.). Let you imagination run free...

Lord Larehip Wrote:A one-hit wonder is a band or artist with one hit. I see no reason to make it any more difficult than that. The ones I posted, I'll go out on a limb here, are bona fide one-hitters.

Again I ask (to the point of being a pest)--by whose/what standards? Or is it that musical worthiness just doesn't enter into this? A hit is something that hits ME...and if it does, I am to let others know (grab your lapels, if I'm really feeling strongly). Anybody can count; how many can feel? I'm off the soapbox now...
