What Are You Listening To?
Wanna hear a Blues take (one of the best Blues pianists), a woman taking a familiar song in a new direction? Deanna Bogart One of the selections from '12s Pianoland, here seen live. Never thought about this song this way but she makes it real: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xQQKi3aKS8 and from http://www.allmusic.com/album/pianoland-mw0002406672 << amazing career so far, outlined here.

A lady friend of mine introduced me to this many moons ago. A couple of the songs grabbed my attention straight away, but after a couple of spins I found some hidden gems as well. Only have the one by them. Must check out their other albums when I get time. Excellent songwriting.

THE MOVE "fire brigade" vinyl, 1972

career stats:
studio albums..........4
singles...................13

a compilation album highlighting the years 1968 thru 1970 for this 'ahead of its time' progressive band from Birmingham,UK....
on here we have various styles of music from the almost hippy/psychadelic "flowers in thr rain",the heavy "wild tiger woman" through to the psych-pop of "blackberry way"...
lots of heavy guitars, dense almost 'wall of sound' sounds mostly with lush orchestral sounds through it...infact, dare i say it...almost Jethro Tull-like in their heaviest moments would be a good description...
not surprising really when a band has foreward thinking people like Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne both trying to outdo eachother musically...
yes, Jeff Lynne,Roy Wood and Bev Bevan from The Move eventually evolved into ELO, unfortunately after their debut Wood left the band and had a successful career as a solo artist and with Wizzard in the 1970s in the UK...
all up though, a great time piece of music/songs from a largely forgotten band of musical giants who later went on to record even greater material apart...

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

best track: flowers in the rain

Don't think I've ever listened to The Move, but 'Blackberry Way' sounds familiar!

I've been listening to ELP's Black Moon which got slated by all and sundry, pretty much, but I like it despite the frog in Greg Lake’s throat and the absence of an epic!

“Prokofiev gets thrust into the ELP blender and comes out screaming.” Great comment by one reviewer on ELP’s adaptation of Prokofiev’s ‘Dance of the Knights’ from Romeo and Juliet. Here it is ...

David Bowie - finding his feet in Hunky Dory - love 'Quicksand' and I think this is a good recording (there's a very nice cover by Seal too if anyone's interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2h3HqN9dBI) -

Hmmm...Bowie???

ive not hear Hunky Dory,ever!
listened to the Bowie link and the Seal cover..prefer Seal's version on a one-off listen.

i was never a big fan of Bowie's albums, always thought of him as more of a 'singles' artist...
off the top of my head, the albums of his i like are "ziggy stardust", "lodger", "lets dance" and his latest effort "the next day", that said, "the next day" took me about a year to appreciate fully.
