I went through a stage from 1987ish through to about 1994ish when I totally gave up on music due to the fact nothing inspired me to buy anything new..
I'm starting to get the same feelings back again...
Even though there is still good music out there I find it to be like finding a needle in a haystack and I simply cant be bothered sifting through piles of crap to find something good....
So from this moment on,I have given up on modern music once again!
Does anyone else feel the same at times or is it just me????
By the way...in 1994ish,for those interested,it was Blur,Oasis and Alanis Morrissette's Jagged Little Pill that turned me back on to music

I think we all go through it
mine was the early 80's
I blame it on disco and my location at the time, central Florida
an absolute dead zone for finding new music I liked
even in the shops
punk brought me out of it
after I relocated to eastern Mass
where radio stations of every format were in abundance
think this is one of the reasons I never cared for Florida
along with the spiders and snakes and gators and swamps and skeeters and Haitians and ocean and Spanish and heat and love bugs

I did not go off music completely, but came close from about 1982 to 1989, when we had a tsunami of synth-pop in the UK. I hate to say it, but the LA big hair bands of the late eighties, like G'n'R brought hard rock back to the radio and then grunge created a resurgence of interest in heavy and progressive rock. I also liked some of the grunge bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog. The late eighties/early nineties saw the return of Black Sabbath, Golden Earring and ELP, while there were some interesting new groups like Blue Murder, Badlands, The Tea Party, Masters of Reality, Cry of Love, Stiltskin and others. By the mid-to-late nineties there were some great progressive rock bands like Spock's Beard, Dream Theater and Transatlantic. During the noughties, rock music began to suffer again in the face of the continuation of rap, boy/girl bands, noisy girl singers, whiny-voiced bands and computer created stuff.
Bands like Nirvana and Oasis were not my flag in a thick pea, but they did at least write their own songs and use guitars, putting a nail in the coffin of synth-pop!
I should add that I am not saying all synth-pop (Human League), rap (Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel), boy bands (Il Divo) and girl bands (En Vogue) are bad, I just don't want to see and hear them all the time!
In answer to the question(!), I find myself not wanting to hear a lot of new music, because I feel I won't like it anyway. By this I mean a lot of heavy and progressive rock, which is what I have always liked. One of the good things about the internet is that I can go back and hear a lot of old music which was previously hard to find.

I'm still plugging away, going through the tons of "stuff" to find the gems. I find pandora and youtube and to a lesser extent amazon a help. I put in a known like and they each make recommendations based on that, which leads me to new stuff.
I've never gone off music, but I have veered away from a particular style. For example in the mid to late 70's I gave up on rock and went into jazz, later I got off of jazz and went to blues...
