on to New Order...
i was never a Joy Division fan, more into The Jam,Elvis Costello,McCartney,Split Enz and the UK ska groups(madness, specials, beat etc) back then, having no time for synthesized dance crap!
then from the ashes of Joy Division came New Order, loved their "blue monday" single but nothing else, ever!
those guys were huge amongst the Uni-student set back then(in the UK) but i never got into them...
heard Blue Monday on the radio just the other day for the first time in what seemed like an eternity...i was surprised to find that it actually sounded very good to this day, a rarity for early 80s UK synth-pop which didnt age like a fine wine...most of that stuff has aged like rotting grapes IMO.

and finally....
on to Of Monsters And Men...
i bought this one about the same time you did MH...
i checked my score which actually rates slightly higher than yours coming in at a nice even 2.0. with "dirty paws" coming in as my favourite track...
apart from the Mumfords' sound, i also hear bits of Arcade Fire...
like you, i hope their next release is better than that Mumfords abysmal "babel" crap!

Ruby Wrote:Tracy Chapman's self-titled debut. Apart from the regular, most popular tracks, I really like this one - great percussion ...

the album literally blew me away when i first got it when it was originally released...
unfortunately it has disappeared from my collection over the midsts of time and space and i sadly no longer have this album..
i actually also had her follow-up album to this one and it never really hit the heights, lyrically and musically speaking for me...
i listened to the next couple of albums also and they just got progressively worse IMO so i think i can safely say that nothing Tracy did come close to that brilliant debut set.

Good alt band here. Seven albums deep and this is my first one. Might deserve some deeper digging. Although my score here wasn't that
impressive, some play would remedy that. Very inteligent lyrics and the liner notes lay them out in a story fashion. Not big on catchy chorus
hooks. This is the bands first label switch but I have nothing to compare to regarding a change in style which sometimes happens when that
occurs. Change in band members have happened so often with this band, that they have to have had a change in sound over the 14 years as a band.
It says this is a concept album but it's rare I can put that together. They were just good songs but for 2. Can't believe my fav didn't even chart.

Must have been in my brief industrial phase when I purchased this. Probably just off of a Ministry fix. Don't much care for it now, except I
still love Closer. The album just misses the like mark. It is the groups best selling going 4x Platinum. It is a concept album about the
destruction of man. I don't know, that's just what it says. It also says it was influenced by Bowie's Low and Floyd's The Wall albums. It was
recorded in the house that Sharon Tate was murdered in, where Trent had moved to. That's creepy enough for me.

I feel like I've been working in a factory all day. Guess I don't care for NIN. This one comes out pretty bad for me. Only liking 5 of the 16
tracks. It's been 13 years since the only other album I have but not much has changed in the sound. My industrial phase probably ended about 13
years ago. Strange to see the only single from this album went to #1 in Canada and not even top 20 anywhere else. This is the first album to not
go at least Gold. Year Zero is a concept album that criticizes contemporary policies of the United States government by presenting a dystopian
vision of the year 2022. Trent did most of the work on the major instruments. Only other credits are just listed for individual tracks.

i dont care for NiN at all....
got an album as a recommendation from either Corey or Tem...hated it!
i love what Johnny Cash did with their "hurt" track, was as though that one was written with Cash in mind, summed up his life perfectly IMO.
