Music and our Moods
#1
Hey guys,
(Not sure if I can put this here)

So I'm doing some work on my thesis for my Bachelor's and as an active lover of music, I've chosen the topic: "The Effect of Music on our Moods." My supervisor is in love with the topic and I've been doing some heavy research on the topic but I need more data, if you guys are willing to assist. I just need you to answer a few questions and maybe we can make a discussion out of it.

So, here goes:

1) What kind of music do you mostly listen to?
2) Do you think there any reason why you are drawn to this particular style of music?
3)How many hours per day do you spend listening to music?
4)What are your "go-to" songs and why?(This is based on your mood at the time)

I have more questions, but thanks in advance for your responses, I'll update as time goes on. :clap2:

I'll give this a shot:
1) Depends on what I'm doing--At home--sedentary--usually jazz/Blues/R&B singers; on the move (driving)--I go to an eclectic SiriusXM channel where you don't know what they'll play next or failing that, (in order)--jazz then Blues then Motown/R&B oldies/ then Latin, stopping when I hear a song I like and moving on when one comes on I can't relate to.
2) Whatever I listen to enhances a feeling I already have. In other words not motivation but re-inforcement.
3) 2-3 hours, usually as research for posting here
4) If I'm "up", drop the needle anywhere here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kO1oB9fgpFc If I need to rid myself of emotional junk via tears: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW399cBGcWg or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1LIJewNfvU

1) What kind of music do you mostly listen to?
I mostly listen to traditional folk music. I sometimes listen to other kinds of music like pop and soft rock but not often as I listen to folk music.

2) Do you think there any reason why you are drawn to this particular style of music?
I think I've choosen this kind of music because it's different than others ones... I used to listen to many songs on the radio, on TV and I couldn't find something for me. There were songs I liked but not many. One day I met a girl who sings traditional folk songs. She sung something and then I searched other songs myself... I enjoyed them!
Today I listen to folk songs because they have good influence on my mood. If I am in a bad mood, the songs help me to settle down. If I am sad, the songs make me happy.

3)How many hours per day do you spend listening to music?
It depends. There are days when I don't listen to anything, that's not a problem. I often spend 2 hours listening to music per day, sometimes more.

4)What are your "go-to" songs and why?(This is based on your mood at the time)
I don't know. It really depends. I can't answer this question.

1) It's always one of three genres; Metal, Electronica or Post-Rock

2) Metal was an outlet for me as a teen for the frustration and angst that filled me. Electronica just because I love to dance until I can dance no longer. Post-Rock because sometimes I just need to chill out!

3)Probably 3-4 on a good day but 1-2 if I'm busy with other shenanigans

4) This is a hard one! If I'm feeling somber then it's "Moya" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. For any kind of good moods it changes so frequently but probably something like "Donkey Rhubarb" by Aphex Twin.

1) It is difficult for me to say what kind I listen to...I like sounds..lol...almost all music, whatever mood I am in! Yes my mood has a profound effect on what I choose to listen to!

2) As I said I like mostly all of it! Therefore I am not drawn exclusively to one type of music!

3) On average, give or take, 2 hours a day!

4) Anything by The Beatles! I know I will never be let down or disappointed! It's a safe choice for me but a pleasurable one.
