What Are You Listening To?
I know of these guys but never heard them previously...
They were a huge influence on Cobain apparently...
I like that track you linked
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

4th studio album - #92 US, #7 UK
singles - Planet Of Sound - #27 UK

.............Letter To Memphis - #6 US (Modern Rock)
.............Head On - #6 US (Modern Rock)

Strange that this band was bigger in the UK than they were here. This is their last album for 20 years. Only 4 albums but they were an influential band. Noticing the
absence of Kim Deal's vocals on most tracks of this album and I don't like it. Nothing wrong with Black's though. Didn't know my fav track here is a Jesus and Mary
Chain song. The only cover on the album. Black Francis anounced the end of the band on BBC Radio in 1993, It was a surprise to the rest of the band. But they all
needed a break and went their seperate ways. Black Francis renamed himself Frank Black and had a few solo albums. Kim Deal returned to her Breeders side gig and
had a hit with Cannonball, and has also had solo albums. The band have all remained friends. They reformed in 2009 for an album and tour but you can never go home.
Kim Deal announced her departure in 2013.

GREEN DAY "international superhits!" cd, 2001

studio albums............11
singles......................40

this album stats............#40 US, #11 AU, #15 UK, #5 NZ
singles:
"poprocks and coke"....no chart action

compilation album from these Alt-Rockers....
the songs on here are tracked according to chronological release date, except for the newly recorded track "poprocks and coke" which appears as track #2 on the disc...
this is how i like to hear my compilations(chronologically), that way when you hear them you can hear the progression in their music over time...
very good set IMO and the only problem i really have with it is that it is titled "international superhits!"...most of these were only minor(top40) hits and not as the titled states "international superhits"...the only real one that lives up to the title was "good riddance(time of your life)" which really was a mega-hit just about everywhere...
their sound at times is very much in line with that of 1970s UK punksters The Clash, but i still wont call them punk, but they are probably as close to UK punk as youre likely to get...
i only own this one and the studio follow-up "american idiot" by these guys...i really should,at some point, invest in some more of their material...
also, for anyone wishing to maybe watch a dvd/bluray of these guys live i can recommend their fantastic live "bullet in a bible" disc...its one of the best live concert discs i have ever seen...

Peter Himmelman and David Hollander’s collaboration, Minnesota, which resulted in the album Are You There. Difficult to find clips on YouTube – (there’s another Minnesota with which this one should not be confused!) Here’s a link to a site with a player that the whole album can be streamed on, if anyone wants to listen, http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/av/20...there.html.

I found one lonely track on YT – “Deep Freeze”. Really don’t know how to categorise this, so alternative it is!

A rare live album for me. Recorded live at a small hall gig in 1989 in Philadelphia. Too stripped down for me I think (acoustic Guitar only), to get past an average like
grade. And I'm a big fan of the guy. Songs are from his previous 10 years. Even the 3 tracks I love here, I would prefer the studio versions that include a band. Don't care
at all for the Sam Cooke cover that closes the album. I have most of the albums on vinyl that these cuts come from. I wonder if I'll ever listen to my vinyl again. I feel bad
for them.
