The thing of it is, rap isn't about the music. It wasn't to the Beat Poets (some real gauzy jazz played behind them) and it isn't today--the words are paramount. This isn't being critical, merely definitional. So, anybody want to step up?

There exists some very good intelligent rap and hip hop but it doesn't dominate the artist's album...there is jazz, African and r n b music interspersed with rap and hip hop also! Neneh Cherry and Sage Francis are two that come to mind! To release just a rap track is boring and is strictly generated to make money off of the masses...which it will!
