Greetings everyone
May I air here an old bug of mine? Chopin and Liszt were both of course great pianists. But it seems to me that in his orchestral writing (the concertos) Chopin was much inferior to Franz L (orchestration even inferior to that of Schumann on a bad day - and he never understood how strings work). To put it in crassly simplistic form, Chopin wrote for the orchestra as if it were a piano, and Liszt for the piano as it were an orchestra.
Thoughts anyone?
