Noel Gallagher - over rated opinion of Oasis and himself.
#1
I must be honest and I'm increasingly irritated by Noel Gallagher. He seems to have a go at everyone - including many decent bands. He also has a deluded opinion of Oasis as he clearly expresses the view they will go down in history as one of the worlds greatest bands. As he says "People like Coldplay, but they don't love them. People like U2, but they don't love them. But people f@cking love Oasis".

Now I was a big fan of Oasis' first two albums. But even by the second album it was obvious they were exceptionally repetitive and had started to seem like a Beatles tribute band. By the third album it was too much to stomach. They built up a massive base and everything they've done since went to number 1 in the UK. But there's no way anything they've done since the second album is up there with the worlds greatest bands. In fact I think his post second album music has been very poor - although I will accept many would disagree. But even those who are a fan of his newer material would very rarely rate any of it among the classics.

its just his arrogance that annoys me. He's achieved so much. But he's embarrassing himself if he thinks he's up there with the greatest ever musicians. His music is too repetitive and sounds too similar to other material. It's as if he's rearranging the same song over and over again. His first two albums with oasis were released in 1994-1995. It's common knowledge he had nearly all his material written in the many years before they we famous. As he's hinted at himself, it's difficult to have the same edge when your rich, rather than an aspiring band without money or fame. That seems to me one of the main reasons why everything he's done in the 20 years since since - from 1995 to 2015 has not been in the same league. Two good years and 20 mediocre years.

So stop being so big headed and deluded mr Gallagher. You were great - but only for a very short time period with limited musical talent. When you say you get angry as people keep asking you to play your old stuff - ask yourself why as you are essentially a nostalgia band.

great thread starter mate, well thought out and put out there for us....10/10 for effort.

you should know that Noel is always sprouting off his opinions about music.....
yes, he thinks Oasis were the greatest band in the world other than....der!, The Beatles.
just take everything he says with humour....he has a very dry sense of humour indeed...

I own all of Oasis studio albums and their 'b-sides' compilation....
their second album, Morning Glory, was by far their most complete album IMO...
their third and fourth albums....Be Here Now + Standing On the Shoulders Of Giants...were abysmal over indulgent pieces of crap, i'd struggle to find three maybe four good songs on each of those....
the remainder(other than definitely maybe) were pretty solid albums IMO, some filler, for sure, but what do you expect when Liam and the band get to write songs??

I am not a fan of Liam Gallagher in any way, shape or form and I do not own the Beady Eye albums because I disliked the singles lifted from them...
I have both of Noel's solo albums, I prefer the second one "chasing yesterdays" over the first one, but again, theres still some filler on it...

he can write a good pop tune, no doubt about it, ones that are catchy and get stuck in your head for days after you've heard them a couple of times, but sadly, he is living off the glory of the first two Oasis albums, no doubt about that....

Live:
Oasis were never consistent as a live band, one show would be blistering and on fire, the next downright bloody aweful....
probably a combination of booze, drugs and the attitudes of both Liam and Noel....
ive seen Noel live acoustically(just him and an acoustic guitar), that was pretty good, infact better than the Oasis gig I saw....

as a musician Noel really isn't that good a guitarist, he can hold a simple tune with a few basic chords and his solo's are simplistic to say the least...
but at least he sticks to what he knows and doesn't try to do too much(unlike albums three and four by Oasis)

I still get pleasure from listening to some of his music, some is very average and some downright terrible, but when he is good he is bloody good.

I still call myself an Oasis fan, but I always add...Oasis as a group, Liam as a person, no way, and Noel he's okay.

but back tot he original post....
his rants about how good he is are annoying and off putting, I just don't like to watch him speak anymore for that reason.
