Davie Bowie "blackstar"
title track off his album that is to be released in January...
this is weird, the video is weird, all up, that means its David Bowie!
apparently this is the final part of the Major Tom trilogy...
obviously the first was 'space oddity' and the second part 'ashes to ashes'...
at ten minutes long, its way too long as a single track but it will probably reveal
itself in all its glory as part of an album....
not sure this would or even could get any sort of airplay at that length so there must
be a 'radio edit' version out there somewhere...
I guess hardcore Bowie fans would like it, im so sure yet, his material usually takes
a few listens for me to decide!

Bowie has lost the plot! He is either suffering from some illness or is taking somehting really powerful. Bizarre video. Bizarre music.

to be honest I was never a big fan of Bowie's albums, I do own a few but I always thought of him as a 'singles artist'.
'ziggy stardust' was very good, but I need to be in the mood to hear it.
'lodger' was also very good, but again, have to be in the mood for it.
'the next day' was very good but took a while to grow on me.
'diamond dogs'...a few good tracks, lots of filler IMO
'lets dance'...good commercial pop, but sounds dated to me now.
'tonight'......he totally lost me on that one, even the singles were pretty bad in hindsight.
also have a couple of compilations on vinyl and a double cd compilation...much better value than his studio albums IMO.
its hard to knock the guy also, as he always tried to do something different that had never been done before(especially in the 1970s)...
he was truly an 'original' artist back in the day...
you've only got to listen to albums like 'ziggy stardust' and his late 1970s set 'lodger' to see and hear that he was decades ahead of anyone else in the game.

I wrote 'weird' to describe the song and the video and Jerome wrote 'bizarre' to describe it....
any other takers???

The top comment on the YT clip echoes my sentiments exactly, i.e. âyou freaky old bastard youâ!

Bowie is IMO, trying to become 'relevant' once again....
his days of being "one step ahead" of the music industry are over...
time to retire gracefully before he embarrasses himself to much....
that said, I would still listen to the new album out of curiosity because it is by "David Bowie".

I think you called that one J
on this track
it's like 2 different pieces
about halfway through it switches over to something entirely different
I like the second half and hate the first half
I remember now why I didn't post on these Bowie single threads
I was waiting to hear the album in it's entirety
I have quirky listening habits
OCD like quirky
I'm nuts, ok
just get off my back will ya

this is what I originally wrote in regards to it: it will probably reveal itself in all its glory as part of an album....
yeh, second half of the song is okay, and I mean just okay...
when I get a chance and im on my own I will listen to the album with the cans on so I can fully concentrate on it,
isn't it funny how David Bowie threads seem to be ongoing...few artists could have that effect on people
just goes to prove there is more to this guy than simplistic songs....
he was an enigma/an unknown/ a genius and had more corners to his personality and creative style than we'll probably ever know!
he was "alternative" before the word was even used to describe music.
