CHICK COREA/THE SPANISH HEART BAND ~ Antidote

Warm, comfortable, assured, this album will be the darling of diehard fans and is beautifully put together; I would expect nothing less. I enjoyed some of the tracks and then became a bit lost on others – it’s distinctly loungey which is not entirely to my taste – downbeat jazz with Latin sounds (of course).
Titled Antidote and intended as such – an antidote to the weird, frenzied world we live in and all its vulgarity - listening puts you in time-out mode, there is not one discordant note and it cannot in any way be said to be deep, dark and depressing. It will transport you back to days of glamour and decorum (on the surface, at any rate!) and is a little anachronistic, I found - then again, while I understand the merits of the music (and love Spanish guitar), it’s not really my thing so that is probably not a fair comment.
