Spotify listen
seventeenth solo album...
could have gone in rock, easy listening, soft rock and even pop but "alt" seemed appropriate...
nine of the twelve tracks had co-writers and three producers and engineers throughout...
Suggs from Madness, Noel Gallagher, Dr Robert, Miles Copeland are amongst the collaborators...
songs are very reflective and looking inward at himself...
lots of orchestrations and strings making it a lush album at times...
cover art was created by Peter Blake, the man behind such covers as Sgt Peppers, Who's "face dances", and various album covers by Ian Dury, Oasis, Eric Clapton to name a few...
the title refers to Weller's age the week the album was to be released (maybe a sarcastic play on the whole Adele albums titles)?!?
all up an album that probably requires more than one listen but overall it just seems a but underwhelming.
singles already posted on MD but heres one that immediately sttod out for me:
I woke up
And everything had gone
My house was not my home
When I woke up
I woke up
And everything had changed
No, nothing felt the same
Wearing someone else's shoes
I found
In bins around the town
I've been walking 'round and 'round
For a clue
Oh, standing on the edge of a mighty ocean
Waiting for the tide to roll
And within this realm of constant motion
I'm try'na find my role
In it all
When I woke up
I woke up
And everyone had gone
No note to say how long
So I stepped into the sun
And waited out the long, long days
With nothing much to say
Only thoughts that pass along
On their way
Oh, standing by the edge of this mighty ocean
Waiting for the tide to roll
And within this realm of constant motion
I'm try'na find my role
In it all
When I woke up
When I woke up
Ooh
When I woke up
And everything had gone
My house was not my home
When I woke up
I woke up
And everything had changed
No, nothing felt the same
Wearing someone else's shoes
I found
In bins around the town
I've been walking 'round and 'round
For a clue
Oh, standing on the edge of a mighty ocean
Waiting for the tide to roll
And within this realm of constant motion
I'm try'na find my role
In it all
When I woke up
I woke up
And everyone had gone
No note to say how long
So I stepped into the sun
And waited out the long, long days
With nothing much to say
Only thoughts that pass along
On their way
Oh, standing by the edge of this mighty ocean
Waiting for the tide to roll
And within this realm of constant motion
I'm try'na find my role
In it all
When I woke up
When I woke up
Ooh
When I woke up
