So it looks like I'm done with the new member probation and I thought I would post a link to the music I've composed.. ( assuming that's allowed now--if not, the moderators are welcome to remove it).. but if anyone has a little time to listen to two or three songs, I would appreciate any feedback they could give about what genre they think my music would belong to.
I try to just label it electronica just to be as general as possible, but more specifically, I have a hard time making up my mind if it falls more into the ambient category or the down-tempo category.
Some of the more calm numbers like "lunum" almost sound a bit like new age, but hopefully not too much.. (I found most new age to be boring and repetitious.. probably most people did too since it seems to be a dated genre now).

I did have a listen to three tracks or so.............Didn't mind what I heard but..... was not knocked out by what I heard ....................The sound reminded me of the softer moments or "The Art Of Noise" maybe with a nod towards "Tangerine Dream" even early "Kraftwerk".
I can see the new age connection but much of the new age I have heard has a different edge to this .
I felt your trying hard and you have potential but there could be further for you to go down the road before you have reached your goal!

Ok, well thanx for your opinion on the quality though my question was actually not about the quality but what genre it sounds like.
But, like I said, thanx anyway for the appraisal, and I agree I've got a long way to go as far as the quality and I was just about to do another post on that subject.

Um.. scratch that about the next post.. the answer to the question popped into my head while I was posting the question, so I don't have to post it.

Ambient may be enough of a descriptor. I've seen the term "organic ambient" used before. That seems to fit most of these pieces. Organic ambient music features live instruments. I don't think you have any live instruments, but you're trying to mimic strings and piano. I suggest finding someone to collaborate with. They could play piano or cello and you record it. Afterwards you can add your own overdubs.

Yeah, I think I'm gravitating toward using live instruments. Non-imitation synthetic sounds just don't usually say it for me.
My uncertainty about the ambient genre is that my impression is that it's a little more atmospheric and not as dominantly melodic as what I do.

Why the desire to categorize your music? That's usually left up to the critics. If you define yourself you may restrict yourself.

Good point. Maybe the best strategy is just to call it electronica and, as you say, let others label it more specifically.

Thanks. Since I posted this I decided it might be best to avoid labels.. keeping my options open.. who knows what direction my music might take. I might just give it up.. I'm still deciding.
