BEN FOLDS "the best imitation of myself-a retrospective" cd, 2011
disc #3
the third disc in this boxset contains demo versions of songs, b-sides of singles and a couple of previously unreleased tracks...
as i dont really know much about his previous albums i have no idea how these versions compare to the original official releases so i can only score
on the basis of these ones...
the guys has very good tongue-in-cheek lyrics IMO, his melodies are often restricted and sound similar over all these discs, and his voice rarely changes
tone or octave...which can be monotonous and boring sometimes...
getting back to his tongue-in-cheek lyrics, listen to "dr.dre...bitches aint shit" where he literally takes the piss out of rap music and their stereotypical lyrics.
i actually hear sounds similar to some of Tim Finn's on some tracks, not sure if Ben was influenced by the Finn Brothers/Split Enz but there is a distinct similarity there...
at least the tracks on this disc have a bit more variation than the first two discs...

“Sgt Pepper did its thing it was the album of the decade, maybe the Century.
It was innovative with great songs, I’m glad I was on it but the ‘White’ album ended up a better album for me.” Ringo Starr
