Shawshank Redemption
The Deer Hunter
Gran Torino
Space Odyssey 2001 (still ahead of it's time)
March of the Penguins (must have been a nightmare to make)
The English Patient
Scent of a Woman
American Beauty (the dinner & burger joint scenes are classic)
Kundun
Sophie's Choice
Schindler's List (really makes you question the sanity of the human race)
Babel (amazing music)
Death at a Funeral (the original) - must be the funniest thing I have seen in years. One guy getting spaced out on LSD while attending a rather toffee-nosed funeral. I was in tears when I saw this.
and many many more

I have several
- Wuthering Heights ................The later versions tend to capture the writing well and interpret the expression of human emotions in the seasons , earth, rocks and weather well.
- High Society : There are so many great moments in this re write of the Philadelphia Story but the scene in the library between Frank Sinatra and Bing Cosby is one of the great moments in 20th century cinema.
- Von Ryan's Express is excellent too.
- The Pianist Totally gripping film.............so well filmed story told with precision
- Rollerball the original version
- The Nutty Professor ( Jerry Lewis version ) .
- The Rebel....The comic genius of Tony Hancock just before he really starts to fall apart.
- I Walk The Line Great story of A great guy .
- Yellow Submarine............Great escapism for all ages..............
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

Absolute favourite has to be Raging Bull. Extraordinary movie, and De Niro's finest hour IMHO.
Others:
Silence of The Lambs, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Schindler's list, Godfather Trilogy, Apocalypse Now, Dr Strangelove, & a TV movie starring Sally Field as Sybil. True story about Multiple Personality Disorder.
Special mention for Harvey starring the great James Stewart.
I love the Lord of The Rings books, but could barely get to the end of the first movie. Haven't watched the other two. Strange, isn't it, how opinions differ...

Agree about LOTR - read the book and found it fascinating. Hated the movie.??!!
Read the book about Sybil - the girl diagnosed as having 16 different personalities - absolutely harrowing story. Not seen the movie.

Raging Bull was very good, my favourite De Nero movies are 'cape fear' and the 'focker' movies
