However, there are some facts that can make it clearer………..
There are three released versions of Revolution : Revolution ( B side to Hey Jude ), Revolution 1 ( white album ) and Revolution 9………………………The first two are supposed to be parts of a long session of song evolution which stretches over some twenty takes. Revolution 1 is from the beginning end and Revolution is nearer the end. Many of the later takes have an extended feel and become heavier in feel and Revolution 9 has its origins in the extended jams that were in the later takes.
The documentation for Revolution 9 shows the involvement of John , George and Yoko. It is also documented that George Martin was the producer but this could be doubtful.
The number nine occurs many times here and is taken from the EMI test tracks used to calibrate the machines in the studio…………The full text is “This is test tape number nine !”
John has commented that the rack was supposed to show how Armageddon might sound. ……..
It is also interesting to note that there are similarities between this and two other racks recorded at this time……………What’s The News Mary Jane and You Know My Name ……………………..Thus this kind of recording could be just a phase John was going through………………In fact he went through it on several other albums, namely ………..Two Virgins and Life With The Lions……………..

In January 1967, McCartney led the group in recording an unreleased piece called "Carnival of Light" during a session for "Penny Lane". McCartney said the work was inspired by composers Stockhausen and John Cage.[1] Stockhausen was also a favourite of Lennon, and was one of the people included on the Sgt. Pepper album cover. Music critic Ian McDonald wrote that "Revolution 9" may have been influenced by Stockhausen's Hymnen in particular.[2]
