Who remembers this performer and tune
#1
Who knows this song?It is sang by a fellow who's real name is Bruce McMeans, it was a number one hit way back in March 1962. This tune was heard again in a very popular hit movie about dancing, which was released in 1987. If you need to know more, scroll down for the answer.

You may dismissive of Mr. Channel as a "one-hit wonder" but he's important enough to be in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and had some other songs that charted well, both in the US and the UK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Channel I like this back-story with Delbert McClinton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdXzJaCeHP8
and a live cut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srNqe243y74

Hi Jazzbo, I like to check my information at Wikpedia. If you go to the 1962 Wikipedia's One Hit Wonder list, Mr Chanel is listed as a one hit wonder with Hey Baby, which reached number one on March 10, 1962. I read the Wikipedia page which mentioned four hits from being as high as 52 and as low as 98 on the Billboard Top 100! Thank you for the links, I enjoyed the video and thank you for the information. ....Best wishes Bob

Seems I remember that song. I think it would have fit Buddy Holly very well Confusedmile: Sounds like something he would have sang.

I resonated with the point Wiki made about that sustained first note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJImvBHeo8Q and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08ziDo8Luws
BTW That "1-hit Wonder" tag is smarmy, irrelevant and totally bogus, appealing only to those who use simple metrics, not feeling--it speaks not to whatever an artist does going forward. Look at Christopher Cross, a "1-hitter" if there ever was one...yet he's had a magnificent, significent career in music. "Pshaw", I say. And let's go:
