going back to uni - kerry101 - 27-01-2010 ok, to be nosey, has anyone here ever gone back to school as a mature student? I have been toying with the idea of going back to school and getting my masters degree (i would be specialising again in Entertainment, and Music Law) but am unsure, although i still do not want to go and actually practice law.. the reasoning i gave it up to begin with still stands and i love working in theatre. going back to uni - Music Head - 27-01-2010 Went back at around age 25, majoring in computer science, only to renew my drop out status (first was high school), when the required public speaking came around. I already had my foot in the door. going back to uni - gryphon - 27-01-2010 I have done this and did make a success of it ..............I did work as a university schools liaison officer during my career and did advice post 18+s on going to uni and the pros and cons etc so I might be able to give you an angle on this don't know

I already had my foot in the door. that was part of my problem talking to people i can do-am actually pretty good at it....but standing in front of people and presenting "a TALK" er...no.... lol not only that, i have issues with the whole me big bad judge and you little lawyer (IN MY BEST TARZAN IMPRESSION) you must do as i say thing.. one of my lecturers went into court and her suit clashed with the judges robe-she was sent home to get changed.i mean really!!!!!!!!! so i couldn't actually practice....... going back to uni - Tiggi - 28-01-2010 My advice would be to write down a sentence about why you want to do the Masters. Then write another sentence describing why you want to stay as you are. Then rub them out, & scratch your head. Seriously though, the public speaking thing can quite easily be overcome. Throw yourself out of your comfort zone a few times, and you soon realise that although it's not pleasant, nobody died. Then it gets easier, and can become a bit addictive. Anyhow, who am I to offer career advice to someone who's vastly more qualified than I'll ever be. FGS make your bloody mind up, woman... going back to uni - Music Head - 28-01-2010 Tiggi Wrote:FGS make your bloody mind up, woman...Come on now. Seriously Tiggi!
