Robin Williams - SteveO - 18-08-2014 Saw Robin's movie from 2009, World's Greatest Dad ...the main theme of the movie was suicide ! ...I wonder.....???? Robin Williams - gryphon - 18-08-2014 Robin was a great talent and made so many people laugh. Sadly like so many people he had mental health issues. It is so sad about the positional of mental health issues in today's societies, they are the last taboo. The people who have them are treated poorly and the area is so underfunded. It really is time for mental health issues to come to have the respect, funding and for the victims, the help needed.
Robin Williams - SteveO - 19-08-2014 I couldn't agree with you more Gryph! The talk shows have been discussing the feelings of being suicidal...the primary solution is to talk to somebody about it...easier said than done in most cases...there is a negative social stigma attached to depression and suicidal tendencies...Carla Hughes, possibly Canada's greatest athlete, won a total of 6 Olympic medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics for cycling and speed skating. She is the foremost proponent in Canada, counselling and talking to the youth across our huge country. Obviously she learned to cope with her bouts of depression. Psychiatry has a popular tendency to label the patient as bipolar and prescribes medication to treat a chemical imbalance in the brain...often this treatment is not effective,,,,,and there are serious doubts regarding the use of: "Escitalopram belongs to the group of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). It works by increasing levels of a neurotransmitter called serotonin in the brain. Increased serotonin levels can lead to an improved mood." source C Heath http://chealth.canoe.ca/drug_info_details.asp?brand_name_id=1924 However the SSRIs have been known to be effective also...a perplexing dilemma! Robin Williams - TraceNspace - 19-08-2014 My heart was broken when I heard the news. Suicides always hurt the most I think. Very talented man and always seemed like such a genuine soul. Definitely a 'gone too soon'. Robin Williams - SteveO - 19-08-2014 Hi Trace! I hope to see you here on MD more often !!!!!! :hand: Robin Williams - whitesand - 26-08-2014 I love him, I agree, that he gone too soon! He was the genius, I think, that he was the best actor of the decade - rest in peace Robin Robin Williams - Lovely Linda - 28-08-2014 Mork and Mindy is on tonight and I watched Awakenings (my favorite of his movies along with Mrs. Doubtfire) last night. Awakenings is on Encore On Demand. Robin should have won a Oscar for that movie which was based on a true story!! I can relate to Awakenings. It's still very sad to me the pain Robin went through and what happened to such a talented man!!
