Today's favour is tomorrow's obligation
#1
Reading Gryphon's comments reminded me of this saying.
Today's favour is tomorrow's obligation
It's something my sister said to me one day when I was freaking out about 'song requests'. I used to have a form and list and people could request I make a videosheetmusic for a particular song. It started out well and was fun. Then some people began to think of me as their servant and the requests got more and more ridiculous and more and more demanding. I finally had it when I got one email from somebody telling me they needed this ASAP, and when I wrote back saying it would be a while, they got really angry at me and called me names. My first reaction was F@$% @%f and I took it out on others who were not being bad at all. Then My sister told me that quote and I discovered the 'DELETE' button on the computer.
I should write a book "Delete without guilt". It took a long time to get used to that, but to me it's like answering the door or phone, if I'm busy, or don't feel like it, then I just ignore it. Hurray for 'ignore' and 'delete'

I don't have much experience of playing live.....................my skill and job is talking to audiences but, I do have a few friends who play live for a living and I have watched their approach to it with interest................they play because they love doing so and they respect their fans ...............they don't often play requests .......................if they do.......then they do it because they feel they want to and it expresses something they want to express................it tends to be because what they play, says something they want to say or fits the moment..................they tell me that in their eyes their fans put them where they are and they respect that and they can break them ............but artistically "the dog wags the tail " and not the other way round Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Some people will deliberately take advantage of another's generosity. But it's also possible to - unwittingly - stumble into taking advantage of a person's good nature, if they always seem to be willing to do you favours.

Somebody once said to me: "If you never say NO, how much is your YES worth?" And I think that's true. Sometimes you need to say "Sorry, can't help".

"yes but just this once and only for you" can work miracles, if delivered effectively If you broadcast availability and affability, it's a lead-pipe cinch you'll get taken advantage of. Ask any whore...or anyone else that desperately needs/craves affection.

I will say it again...the ultimate experience is the connection between the artist and a live audience!!!!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
