dont forget tiggi that a mosque cant just be built, it has to have official certification from a government body to do so, therefore, the US government, on some level are insighting hatred towards islam by approving the development of a mosque, if it goes ahead.
if there are one billion muslims on earth, as is often quoted, and only 1% of them are fanatic lunatics thats 10million psychos, thats probably a fair statistic. i know a few muslims and have built houses for numerous others and they are lovely people, the fanatics spoil it for the rest of them, unfortunately. all true religion/religiou persons everywhere are peace loving individuals.
closer to home though, for you, there a catholic and prodestant fanatics in ireland

Yeah, don't build a muslim meeting center for muslims and other religious people with a praying room in it, which makes it a mosque per se, built by people who did more for Americans than many real Americans- if those really exist apart from native Americans - have ever done (go and read the new issue of the New Yorker if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about) and continue building sex shops and stuff in the immediate vicinity to honour the dead. Idiots.

ive never been to america, so maybe my opion is uninformed by the lack of knoweledge about the layout of new york but if it was me ground zero would be turned into a park, ie, grass, trees, fountains etc with a central monument dedicated to lives lost and the courage of the emergency services who tried to help during 9/11.

The latet polling data I have seen says americans oppose the building of the mosgue at the proposed site by around 60/40.
Personally I don't have a problem with it.
I think it's pretty stupid to say you can build it at x distance from ground zero, but not y distance.

I saw a TV interview with the local Imam over the weekend, and he seemed a pretty reasonable character ?!

I can't help feeling that they could show more feeling about the situation and choose a better place that would not stir up peoples antagonism. Apparently he said that it was in the community of those that want to worship there but that is a very selfish, outlook in my opinion. What difference would it make if they had to travel just a couple of blocks? At least it would keep the peace which is what they say they are interested in!!

It's just another chapter in the power struggle between religions - this crap has been going on for centuries - millions dying in the name of one or other God. Trouble is, God had nothing to do with it, didn't ask for it to be done and probably would not approve of it. What the hell is wrong with the human race?
