Looking for Bands/Artists with really cool cover songs/videos.

I love it when a band doesn't just COVER a song from a mainstream artist....But, I love it when they change the song
and make it even better.

Unfortunately, that happens so rarely..... Even famous bands make bad attempts at it. For example, Soundgarden covered a Beattles Song,
"Come Together" with high pitched wailing electric guitars. Sorry, I am not a fan here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpT4kgg5xlw

Then again, Guns 'n Roses did a great job with a Paul McCartney tune....So some hits and misses...

In case anyone's ever heard of Ellie Goulding "Lights," you might be curious enough to see a not so famous independant band
"We Are Forever's" attempt to change the song into a hard rock/pop tune.

Lots of bands / artists and DJs have all done remixes of Ellie Goulding "Lights" but We Are Forever is perhaps my favorite so far.

And it is fun to always just go down the list of COVER SONGs on "Youtube" for that matter:

I love clicking on these videos and seeing if they are any good or not.

But, sure would be great to start up a discussion here and get some ideas for excellent COVER attempts that I can watch/listen.

My favourite 'cover' is Clapton's new version of Layla from the unplugged series. Takes an existing well known song and completely transforms (and improves) it into something completely new.

i agree Jerome...imnot a huge Clapton fan but i do love his original version, but in the unplugged version he takes the song to somewhere else that is magical and heartfelt IMO, infact, love the whole unplugged album, great stuff by EC

try this one Jeff....
a rock ballad version of The Beatles "help", far superior to the Fab four's version IMO

Paul Weller did a brilliant version of the Etta James classic"i'd rather go blind" in the mid 1990s which i love more than the original...

John Cash's "ring of fire" was originally sung by Anita Carter(sister of his future wife June...John's version is better), for those who have never heard the original here it is followed by JC's version

Welcome aboard MD, Jeff! I also love covers...there are tons of them out there...here's some of my favorites...

Kate Bush - tribute to Elton John (various)...she really knows how to interpet a song in an interestingly unique way!

Oasis - I am the Walrus

Fiona Apple - Across the Universe

Blind Guardian - The Wizard (Uriah Heep)

KD Lang - Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah

Parton/Ronstadt/Harris Trio - After the Goldrush

Jeff Healey - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Elton John with Axel Rose - Bohemian Rhapsody

Neil Young - Blowin' in the Wind and A Day in a Life

Jeff Beck - A Day in a Life

Beth Hart - Whole Lotta Love

Deep Purple - Hush and Kentucky Woman

Wilson Pickett - Hey Jude
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
