you guys all know im a huge Presley fan right?!

we hag emigrated to Australia from the UK just nine months previously and were still living in the migrant hostel whilst our house was getting built,
it was Graylands Hostel, in Mt.Claremont, West Australia, the place doesn't exist anymore...
I remember waking up in that morning and thought it was strange that my mum wouldn't let me watch the children's shows on TV...
I kept nagging her to turn them on...
after enough nagging my mum told me that Elvis had died overnight....
I was gutted, ten years old, sobbing my heart out and refusing to go to school...I ended up crying all day on my bed....

any other takers????

Same for me, I was 10 years old, in London, in bed listening to the radio when the news of Elvis death came across.
I had to check the family records the next day, and I found "Elvis 40 Greatest" ... I put it on and "Heartbreak Hotel" just amazed me. It was not what my siblings (all older than me) listened to (Eagles, Cat Stevens, Neil Young) I played the double album inbetween the BBC showing his films each weekday morning. I was hooked, am still listening to EP, I have the entire catalogue, plus the collectors editions (FTD editions, which are still publishing CD's each month).
of course I have branched in to multiple areas of music, but EP is always the core of my love of music.

When john Lennon was murdered, I was staying in New York City in a backpackers' hostel only a few streets away. I recall someone pounding up the stairs late in the night yelling something like "John Lennon's been shot", but I don't think it registered; there was always lots of noise at that place, people talking and yelling into the night.

In the morning, of course, in the common-room no one was talking about anything else.
