Hi all
This is a topic I'm sure we all can relate to...
A hook, in musical terms, is something all of us is familiar with, whether we're aware of it or not.
For those of you who doesn't know or is not really sure of what it is I'll give a short explanation.
The short explanation is simple - a hook is that part of a song that makes you remember it after just one listening.
It could be the intro of a song (Deep Purple's Smoke on the water, after less than two seconds you know it) , it may be something as simple as those two distinct drum beats layered with some synth sound as in Soft Cells Tainted Love - you'd recognize that song with only those two " baoum baoum" beats... and I'm quite convinced that most of us would be familiar within seconds after Beatles "Yeah, yeah, yeah" was played...
And sometimes we are "hooked" by different parts of a song but nonetheless I'd like to have your opinions in the topic...
- Which is the best hook in history ? (not necessarily your all time favorite song, it's all about that hook now)
- Worst hook, or perhaps better described as worst hook attempt?
- Which hook has had the most important impact on the success of a song...
Or just name an artist and a song and what part of it the song you consider being the hook...
This song was part of my youth during the eighties, and that coughing at the beginning, and then more later on may not be my favorite parts of the song, but I'll know the song in tenth of a second by it...
