new international release day for albums
#1
Before a hard-struck agreement between the major labels, records were released on various days in various countries. As an anti-piracy measure (so they say), the industry will now do releases on Friday. Helps the labels, probably helps the major retailers, loud objections from smaller retailers and chains. It's all here:

just read your article you posted jazzy...
ive often wondered why different countries release albums on different days also...

Tuesdays.........US
Wednesdays....UK,Japan
Fridays............Australia

our release days are usually the friday prior to everywhere else...

it should all be the same...

only one problem though,
some artists only go for 'local release dates' if theyre new artists and its only when they get international interest that they release their albums
on a global scale...
classic recent example is the George Ezra one...
released in the UK a year ago, released here eight months ago and finally released in the US a couple of weeks ago,

so my question is, and its also going to be a flaw with the "same day" release dates...
how are they going to police this with younger newer artists when music lovers check international charts and often check out those new releases from other
countries?????
i often check out artists ive not heard of, and if i was into illegal downloads i would almost certainly do so, and theres probably lots of people who do it on a regular basis.

I hear you C-H--remember though this agreement is only for the major labels--newer artists usually haven't gotten there yet. That George Ezra case is a puzzlement--I dunno. As far as smaller retailers: a smash hit comes out on Friday, the smaller ones run out on Saturday and can't get re-stocked 'til Monday at the earliest. Result: lost sales on a hottie which small fry use to bring traffic into the stores and the profit on which subsidizes the slower-moving merch in the bins. Target Stores et al. were quick to realize this and signed on early--they never have to run out with re-supplys 24/7/365.

...it just puts the new up and comers at a bigger disadvantage than they already are, doesnt it?
then when shelves dont get restocked they drop down the charts the following week...
possible result....people wont buy them the following week thinking.."oh,they dropped down the charts, cant be any good,im not buying it!"

lose-lose situation IMO, unless of course they get bought digitally...you can do that 24/7

they don't even care about brick and mortar, unless you're a chain

as far as the day
I don't really care
