Here's my list:
1) Hard Rock & Metal 2) Alternative:- Punk, Post-Punk, Grunge & Indie 3) Rock:- Rock 'n' Roll, Classic Rock & Progressive Rock 4) Electronic Music 5) Country, Folk & World Music 6) Jazz & Blues 7) Classical Music & Opera 8) Film & Stage Music 9) Soul/R&B & Hip Hop/Rap 10) Pop, & Dance As you can see I do not like a lot of the music that our "popular" genres are producing now. It's a shame really that we don't see more talent.

Here's this sites' genre groupings ranked in the order of which I generally listen to the most to the least, with estimated percentages for how much I listen to each in the time I am listening to music.
Hard Rock & Metal - 75% Metal is my favourite genre by far. There's so much variety in metal I could almost listen exclusively to whatever can be classified as some sort of Metal. I'm not too fond of Hard Rock though. I'm mostly indifferent to it, occasionally I'll enjoy it a bit. Country, Folk & World Music - 10% Quite a few of the Folk Metal and Black Metal bands I listen to put out pure Folk albums and songs at one point or another, so I thought that'd count for this. I also don't mind a bit of older Country music, mostly stuff I've heard from the video game Fallout: New Vegas. I haven't really spent much if any time exploring Reggae though. Rock:- Rock & Roll, Classic Rock, & Progressive Rock - 4% I've gotten most of the appreciation I have for this music from my parents and Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I'm a fan of Rush, Queen, The Beatles, CCR, The Guess Who, The Animals etc. I don't listen to it much, but it's almost always enjoyable to some degree. Classical Music & Opera - 3% I don't listen to Classical by itself much, but I definitely enjoy Baroque and Romantic Era Classical when mixed with Metal. Jazz & Blues - 3% I've mildly liked the small amount of Blues I've heard, and I do like some Swing music from the Fallout video games. I also enjoy Jazz when it's mixed with Metal. Film & Stage Music - 1% I'm taking this genre label meaning something like Movie/Video Game soundtracks. I'll sometimes listen to soundtracks, but it's very rare. I have enjoyed the soundtracks for the two video games Halo 4, and TES V: Skyrim, as well as enjoyed the soundtrack for the Horror movie Ravenous though. Alternative:- Punk, Post-Punk, Grunge & Indie - 1% These are genres which some of I like a bit, most I'm indifferent with, and some more which I really, strongly dislike. Electronic Music - 1% Depending on the exact meaning of this, my opinion on it could mean a number of things. I mean I don't mind and sometimes really enjoy music which's made with Moog Synthesizers, Theremins, Vocoders etc. but that music is usually accompanied by other instruments. So I'm unsure I can say how much I really like pure 100% electronic music except that I'm likely mostly indifferent to it. Soul/R&B & Hip Hop/Rap - 1% I can't say I've found much of these genres which I've enjoyed, but I haven't looked much, and I'm willing to bet there's probably some of it out there which I could enjoy. Just as of now I'm either indifferent to the music I've heard from these genres, or quite dislike the music I've heard from these genres. I think it'd be good if I found the first artist in this genre which I could really enjoy, because I find once I've found one artist in a genre I like, it becomes much easier to find more artists similar to their style which I can also enjoy, and expand from there. Pop, & Dance -1% I've never been a dancer, and I can't say I care for any of the Pop I've heard on the radio. I usually either find it a bit annoying, or it's just there with no purpose to me and I just tone it out. Also here is a list of Metal sub-genres ranked in order of preference. I love this sub-genre 1.Black Metal I really like these sub-genres 2.Folk Metal 3.Death Metal I like this sub-genre quite a bit 4.Power Metal I like these sub-genres 5.Doom Metal 6.Thrash Metal 7.Progressive Metal 8.Traditional Heavy Metal 9.Neo-classical Metal 10.Speed Metal I am either indifferent to or strongly dislike the music I've heard from these sub-genres 11.Glam Metal 12.Metalcore 13.Nu Metal

I can honestly say that I find great music in all genres!!!! ...and I love your metal genres!!!! Well my favourite band who does Black Metal but most of whom's work is more on the Avant-garde side is the band Sigh. As for the bands you like, I've found a few songs by Moonsorrow and Agalloch that I really like, but I haven't explored most of their discographies. I haven't really checked out Xasthur or Satyricon, but I probably should sometime because I've heard some great things about them too. I love Ulver's first three albums as well as like their demo Vargnatt. Some other Black Metal band's among my favourites are Mondstille, Absu, Windir, Janvs, Cirith Gorgor, Immortal, Rotting Christ, and Mistur among many others.

This Thread title "Rank the Genres" is a great name for a band--one of those 2-way phrases, like Foster the People. Who wouldn't want to foster the People, make'm better off? Or maybe we're talking about a bloke with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID--q.v.) OTOH could be a multi-talented person doing a wide variety of material but could also be a synonym for slag the genres, elevating one over another, or wishing to be genre-free and liking and seeing music as a seamless continuum. But then I could be over thinking. << Had to separate this word too, lest folks think I was out there hinking in public ("I'm feeling hinky about this project", said the Big Dog just before the plug gets pulled. Overt hinking.)
A man accustomed to hear only the echo of his own sentiments, soon bars all the common avenues of delight, and has no part in the general gratification of mankind--Dr. Johnson
