What Are You Listening To?

LEVEL 42 "guaranteed" cd, 1991

career stats:
studio albums......11
singles................33

this album...............#3 UK
singles:
"guaranteed"...........#17 UK
"overtime"..............#62 UK
"my fathers' shoes"..#55 UK

a 'three for $10' discount bin buy some time ago....
I own a few of their 1980s singles and couldn't resist an album purchase from a discount bin...
white boy soul band from the UK, album contains elements of funk and jazz also which means
easy listening light pop stuff....
not as good as their stuff from a few years prior to this but still not bad....
some nice tunes on this one but nothing outstanding...
well worth the $3.33 for it though...

PRINCE "PURPLE RAIN" 1984. #1 Aust/UK/US

what can i say about this one? its funk, its pop, its psuedo-psychadelia, its rock.....its Prince!

Prince has always reminded my of a 1980s Little Richard: flambouyant, extrovert, performer/entertainer,and like Little richard...he is truly unique and underrated/forgotten by the general public.
nine tracks of dance, ballads, rock and a seven and a half minute opus,in the title track. this was Prince at the start of international stardom at the top of his game. he was the only one who could match Michael Jackson for quality and class in the mid 1980s, this album is so good that any of the nine tracks could have been released as singles and been massive hits.

I just revisited this one I posted back in 2011 on MD (not sure if the links still work)...
my thoughts on the album are what they were back then...
great album, great artist...
I should get it on cd now as the original post was from my vinyl copy,
I have six of his albums on vinyl plus a three cd compilation of which ive only ever posted disc #1 on MD for some strange reason.

RONAN KEATING "10 years of hits" cd, 2004

career stats:
studio albums.......10
singles.................26

this album................#1 UK...#5 IRE...#13 AU...#4 NZ
singles:
"i hope you dance".....#2 UK...#4 IRE
"father and son".........#2 UK..#16 IRE
"baby, can I hold you"...no chart action

Irishman Keating's compilation covering the first decade of hits as a solo singer...
was formerly a member of Irish boyband Boyzone who scored nine #1's in their homeland and six in the UK...
I was never a fan of those guys, but Keating stepped up to the plate in his first few years...
some good genuine mature pop songs on here and a couple of soppy ballads (which are also good, mind you),
unfortunately Keating, ended up going the route of covers albums to probably please mothers and grand mothers
or Xmas/Mothers Day sales...
he is now a judge or mentor or something on one of those reality 'gonna make them a star' tv shows out here.
unfortunately almost half this album is covers, most of which I hate, but it is still worth it for the original singles
he bought out from 94-00.

MAROON 5 "singles" cd, 2015

career stats:
studio albums...........5
singles....................22

this album..............#19 AU...#4 NZ...#35 UK

right first things first...
was this compilation not released in the US or Canada????
a collection of pop/pop rock singles from Music Head's favourite band and vocalist in particular in Adam Levine (he says sarcastically!)
IMO, tis is a good solid collection of singles from the ballad "she will be loved", the dance track "moves like jagger" through to the pop rock of "this love"...
to me they are a versatile band but hey....
haters are gonna hate no matter what these guys release.
