What Are You Listening To?

MENTAL AS ANYTHING "mouth to mouth" cd 1987

Aussie band's sixth studio album....
peaked at #14 here and spawned four singles...
sticking with their bouncy pop sounds here, slight hints of country
in the tracks also...
like most of their material, nothing great on it but consistently good...
only bummer for me is a re-recording of one of their early hits,
this was done for the UK market but still makes no sense to me...
second single which peaked at #15 here is my favourite track and linked below.

MENTAL AS ANYTHING "liar liar, pants on fire" cd, 1995:

the band's eighth of thirteen and my fifth and last purchase...
peaked at #32 here, their second last charting album here...
four singles released off it, only two charted, and pretty low also...
my fave off the album, Mr Natural, was the highest of those that charted peaking
at a lowly #27 which was pretty dismal by their previous standards here...
some okay pop sounds here but some crappy tunes also...
album would be a borderline like/dislike if I used the MHRS for scoring tracks...

Ariana Grande "dangerous woman" cd, 2016:

her third album, I own her second album also....
first one not to top the US charts. peaked ad #2 over there...
became her first #1 album in a swag of other countries though....
five singles lifted off this one...
mostly pop but a couple of almost dance tunes also....
several "featuring..." tracks, theyre rappers for the most part...
nice pop tunes on here, and she can sing....
favourite track for me on here wasn't released as a single, its a ballad...
in more recent times terrorists targeted one of her concerts in the UK killing
some young teens/kids who were concertgoers...
that said, this is a good album, not great by any means but it is consistent...

Love this one! We lost one of the best voices in music history Sad

I agree, she had one of the finest female voices in the history of pop music...then the drugs and booze took over and she became an embarrassment and a shadow of her former self, same goes for Amy Winehouse...!

both were tortured souls, and theyre both in a much better placer now RIP Whitney and Amy.

I was thinking about Whitney's death as I was posting her videos.
I was thinking why someone did not try harder to help her.
I have druggies in my family and ones who were in the family who have died from drugs.
I know we have to want help but something just tells me no one reached out to Whitney enough.

Kevin said he thought she could have been helped. He said anything is possible. He is right about that.

HIGHASAKITE  "camp echo"  cd,  2016:

one of my end of year purchases last year....
Norwegian pop band, third album...
hearing bits of everything on this one, pop, jazz, blues...
i was really worried about unwrapping this one and playing it for the first time
since my Spotify listen fourteen months or so ago...
i neednt have worried and trusted my instincts of why i purchased it...
its good, not great, just a consistant alt-pop album...

Cathal Smyth - A Comfortable Man. I like this solo effort by trumpeter and occasional lead vocalist for Madness. He IS comfortable in what he's doing and it's a good listen IMHO. This is a live version of a track from the album ... "Goodbye Planet Earth". I like it a lot.
