KIM WILDE "select" vinyl 1982
her second of fourteen, i only own the first two...
first time listening to this in a long while...
i actually cannot remember the last time i heard it which probably says it all...
terrible album, i didnt even like the two singles from it on this listen despite them both being top 10 hits here back in the day!, "cambodia" and "view from a bridge"...
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

THE (ENGLISH) BEAT - "what is beat...the best of the beat" cd/cassette 1983
i never know where to put 'ska', is it pop/dance or world music??
anyway, a compilation to put paid to their shortlived career as a band...
after their split half of them formed General Public, a pseudo pop-reggae band and the others formed Fine Young Cannibals...
these guys made some good singles but nothing outstanding IMO and this album just brings back a few fond memories of days of youth.

FLORENCE & THE MACHINE "lungs" cd 2009
their debut of five
i only own the first two
lots of foot stomping beat driven pop here
first time i had listened to this in near on a decade and was a bit apprehensive as to how it would sound..
no problem at all, still sounds really good for the most part and better than i thought it would
i like this album

not mine, Lynne's....
a double set containing 35 of her 40 singles up to that point...
a fairly solid collection for the most part but as always theres a handful of real clunkers...
i wouldnt say im a fan but i like more of her songs now than before i played this album.

BONEY M "take the heat off me" vinyl, 1976
german disco vocal group...
debut album of eight of which i own all eight in a vinyl box set titled "boney m complete"...
five covers on here, disco versions of "fever", "no woman no cry" and "sunny" plus two re-workings of other old songs, the title track and "baby do you wanna bump", so only three originals on here which in the disco era means nothing as it was all about the beats and vibes so people could boogie-on-down...
album peaked at #2 in their homeland, top 10 throughout most of western europe, top 40 in the UK, top 30 in AU and NZ..
two big hits off this one in their cover of "sunny" and "daddy cool"..
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
side 1:
1: daddy cool ***
2: take the heat off me **
3: sunny **
4: baby do you wanna bump **
side 2:
1: no woman no cry **
2: fever **
3: got a man on my mind **
4: lovin' or leavin' **
3s - 1
2s - 7
1s - 0
rating: 2.1

a revisit
from Tennessee
debut album
calls herself LoLo now (should have stuck to Lauren Pritchard IMO)
pop with a hint of soul/R+B
fairly good album, nothing to dislike and plenty to love
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

STEPHAN REMMLER "lotto" vinyl 1988
former lead singer of German synth-pop trio called Trio
Trio had that huge hit "da da da, dont love you, you dont love me" back in 1981
anyway,
given to me by Lynne as a Christmas gift (not sure whether she did it was joke or was being serious..
this is his debut solo album released a year after Trio disbanded
most of it is sung in German, i know a bit of the language because i learned the basics at school in the UK when i was young (as i did with French too) as they were the two most spoken languages in Europe along with English back then, now it is probably arabic and indian but thats another story for another time LOL
so, lots of catchy songs on here, slightly reggae-ish in places, very similar to those of fellow German pop group Boney-M
i guess that disco-pop sound was still popular in the late 1980s.
love just about every song on here even though i barely understand the words Stephan is singing
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
the single (which is serious and not catchy at all)
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

CAT BURNS "early twenties"
thought i would give the album that was Mellope's favorite of 2024 a listen
so,
UK singer/songwriter
debut album
quite melodic and pleasant to listen to
i probably would not buy it but i will look out for her name with future releases

MADONNA "madonna" cd/cassette 1983
a revisit
her debut of fifteen (i think) plus the 'im breathless' soundtrack to the Dick Tracey movie
so,
between myself and Lynne we own all of Madonna's studio albums so i thought it might be fun to go through them in chronological order so here goes
light breezy pop/dance orientated songs on here
i was worried this might not hold up but it does
was actually a pleasant listen and revisit with, surprisingly, every track making the pass grade on this occasion
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
the debut single:
(yes there was a time before she became slutty and had plastic surgery)
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.
