American Idol, season 7, 4th place finisher, finally gets his day. Although his parents are Columbian, Jason is Texas born and raised. Signed to Atlantic records and with some MTV airplay for the first single of Let's Just Fall In Love Again, this could take off. Won't be with my help though as this just fails the buy mark. There are a few catchy tunes, and the inclusion of his best AI performance of Leonard Cohens Hallelujah performed Jeff Buckley style is a plus, but the rest falls way short for me. Clocking in at less than 30 minutes, this will leave his fans screaming for more of those dreadlocks.

South Carolina/Mississippi/Tennessee are Dave Barnes home states, born/raised/college. Son of a pastor and friend of Amy Grant would explain the background here I guess. Curentlly signed to Razor and Tie, this is his fourth studio effort. Standard pop/r&b sounding tunes, with some religious overtones, although I wouldn't peg this as just that. Not much was good for me. An ok closer.

This England divas debut has been out for awhile in the U.K. but is just making it to the U.S. shores. Yes she is black but I wouldn't call this soul or r&b, more pop territory, with some definite 60's retro sound, even to the point of some ripoffs. Like her voice quite a bit, although the music is a bit too poppy for me. Barely misses the buy list ranking. Singles have already been released of Crying Blood, Leave! and Shark In the Water. Really like the title track where it slows down a pace.

Kind of weak as far as calling this a hits album. Only 3 songs on this collection that I remember as hits for her. Others were hits for someone else maybe, most notable being What The World Needs Now Is Love, which was a huge hit for Jackie Deshannon. Dionne was offered that song initially and turned it down. She later recorded it, but it was a never a single for her. Two of those three songs are classics in my book and some other decent tracks make this a good album. Only 2 bombs, and the version of Unchained Melody is terrible. Ten of these twelve tracks are David/Bacharach compositions, making this more of a hits album of theirs. I do not own Part 1, which probably contains more actual hits of Dionnes. This one made it to #28 on the U.S. charts. I believe the biggest hit was I Say A Little Prayer For You, which reached #4.

Another teeny bopper superstar in the works. How many times can that ship sail? California girl who started her rise to fame doing television commercials at the age of 3. Now 17, she's come along way baby. First tv show acting role was at the age of 8 on an episode of Smallville. On to films at the age of 10 in School Of Rock with Jack Black (a good movie btw). Back to tv with a regular supporting role in the sitcom Drake & Josh. Then her own starring role in the Nickelodeon series iCarly, where she also performed the theme song for the show. I have seen both of these shows thanks (or not) to my grand daughter. Only one step left to her own recording contract and this debut album. Kind of skimpy with only 8 tracks on what I heard, but I see the deluxe edition has 5 more tracks. What the hell does that mean, deluxe edition? I feel cheated. A couple of good tracks out of those eight, but that's not enough to make my list.

Snorah's latest offering.

This album continues to take her in a more contemporary direction. In fact it's debatable that this belongs in the Pop & Dance section. In many ways her voice is more Jazz than anything else, but it's not Jazzy enough to go in the Jazz section, and the music is probably Alternative in feel. I can't put Snorah in Alternative, that just wouldn't be right...

So Pop it is.

I think it works well, and she's a voice worth listening to, plus she's not bad at songwriting.
