What Are You Listening To?
Yea, blue eyed soul. That's another laughable one.
Goes all the way back to the Righteous Brothers.
Another one I had trouble with even way back then was bubblegum.
and the beat goes on.

You seem to be having a bit of a fix of '80s bands, Lloyd (new Human League release yesterday). Getting a bit nostalgic ??

Barry's fourth album and reaching his peak. A #6 ranking with 4 singles, 2 of them top 10, with Looks Like We Made It going to #1, but not my favorite. That would be the beautiful Weekend In New England, penned and done by Randy Edelman. Not sure whose version I heard first, but I love Barry's. Reba McEntire also did this song, which I thought was rather good. I'm sure others have covered it too. Randy had a brief, but dismal recording career of his own, before moving to scoring films. The other standouts on here for me were the title track and Daybreak, one of those uptempo ones. Only one throwaway.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Say The Words

Best Track - Weekend In New England

Last night, I waved goodbye
Now--it seems years
I'm back in the city
Where nothing is clear
But thoughts of me --holding you
Bringing us near
And tell me
When will our eyes meet
When can I touch you
When will this strong yearning end
And when
Will I hold you again
Time, in New England
Took me away
To long rocky beaches
--and you, by the bay
We started a story Whose ende must now wait
And, tell me
When will our eyes meet
When can I touch you
When will this strong yearning end
And when
Will I hold you again
I feel the change comin'
--I feel the wind blow
I feel brave and daring!
I feel my blood flow
With you
I can bring out
All the love, that I have
--With you there's a heaven
So earth ain't so bad
And tell me
When will our eyes meet
When can I touch you
When will this strong yearning end
And when
Will I hold you again

CULTURE CLUB "Colour By Numbers" 1983

culture club released 4 albums between 82-86 and in my opinion this is the only one worth getting, their debut album wasnt bad though, it was more 'funky' and did contain the hit 'do you really want to hurt me?' and 'ill tumble 4 you'(aussie release only).
after this album George O'Dowd aka Boy George started dabbling in heroin/cocaine which over time caused havoc not only on subsequent releases but in his personal life for a good decade. CC did reform in 1999ish and record another album and they did manage a few minor hits in the UK, and toured the world, but the glory of this album was never matched-nor the success that came with it.George is now a DJ.
this album was a mix of pop and soul with a bit of gospel thrown in on 'thats the way', the album is a winner on a number of fronts: great melodies, great colourful album cover, 10 strong tracks, great lyrics and sublime backing vocals from backing singer Helen Terry who takes these songs to another level thats out of this world. 'karma chameleon' and 'victims' are IMO two of the greatest songs ever recorded by anyone, anywhere.
i think the birth of MTV did help CC along the way because they always had bright, fun, entertaining videos to accompany the singles.
whatever you think of George as a crossdresser or homosexual, he did make half a dozen classic singles and one really great album...this one
is it!
the album reached #1 in 27 countries including US/UK
singles:
karma chameleon #1 UK/US
it's a miracle #13 US, #4 UK
church of the poisoned mind #10 US, #2 UK
miss me blind #5 US, not released UK
victims #3 UK, not released US

I LOOOOVVVVVVEEE this album!

Not well known, except by me. I can sing these without missing a note, even those high ones. In the Bobby Vinton territory if you are unfamiliar. Never any huge hits but he did consistenly crack the charts, the highest being Right Or Wrong and One Kiss For Old Times Sake, both going to #14. His bubble didn't last long, but he did it for me. Hailing from Virginia, his career began in 1959, with the peak being around the time of this release. Not a bad song on here. Still doing the nightclub circuit in the Baltimore area. Probably not now, but a beautiful voice back in the day.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - I'll Make All Your Dreams Come True

Best Track - One Kiss For Old Times Sake

One kiss for old times' sake
Just like it used to be
One kiss for old times' sake
Could bring you back to me

If you'd give me a chance
To love you one more time
Maybe my lips on yours
Could change your mind
And you would know how much I want, I need you, I lo-o-o-o-ove you?
Oh, my darlin', please grant me this

One kiss for old times' sake
Just like it used to be
One kiss for old times' sake
Could bring you back to me

If there's a spark of love
Still left from our romance
You owe it to your heart
To give me one more chance
Oh, can't you see how much I want, I need you, I lo-o-o-o-ove you?
Oh, my darlin', please grant me this

One kiss for old times' sake
Just like it used to be
One kiss for old times' sake
Could bring you back to me

One of Mrs Tiggi's personal collection which normally lives in the kitchen.

Putting it in the Pop section doesn't really do this album justice, it's much broader than just Pop. On balance, though, this is where it goes.

Nutini is a young Scottish singer-songwriter who writes songs in a multitude of styles. Folk, Country, Blues, Ska, Jazz, and '60s-sounding Soul all get a look-in, and the standard of writing is high throughout. He has a very good voice which is raw and emotional, and he sings the mostly upful songs very impressively.

Worth a listen...

^ I actually like this album also. Strangely enough my mum keeps a copy in the kitchen as well... First time I heard one of the songs from it on the radio I honestly thought it was Bob Dylan! Amazing how he's reinvented himself after the trash he raped our ears with before!

^ I've just ordered his debut for the Mrs as an Xmas prezzie.

I'll take it from your comment that I won't want to hear it...

Well it's nothing like the new album if that's what you mean. Just straight-forward bland pop. You would already be familiar with severely irritating songs such as 'New Shoes' though. That's just my personal view though, if you happen to like it then its cool!
