I hope I'm allowed to post a thread like this.
I'd like to expand what I listen to. For the past few years, I've not really listened to much music, for various reasons. I've totally got out of the habit. I now want to get back into it.
At the moment I like quite 'shallow' music... songs that I like for just being a happy/boppy tune.
I'd like some music that expands out from that, into different genres perhaps, or being happy but with meaning or fantastic instrumentals or something, or by someone who plays music for just liking music, rather than to please everyone else/get money.
Any suggestions? It can be from any era or genre.

Try looking at the following parts of the site
The Beginners Guides .............These have quite a variety and include youtube clips
The Classic Album section although young is good place to look.
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

I've had a look, but it feels very overwhelming, since I have no idea what/who I'd like really.

Ok if it looks overwhelming, then lets try to make simple start and work forwards...................
You seems to have wide tastes and they expand forwards and backwards in time so we can use that as a starting point...................
I'm going to go into safe territory for me to start with and work outwards:
I think the best medium would be to use youtube to get to listen to the tracks :
So lets start with a few simple classics
Find these and listen to them see what you think:
Here comes the Sun
Paperback Writer
Yesterday
Here There and Everywhere
Ballad Of John and Yoko
Satisfaction
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
Sitting On A Fence
Back Street Girl
Lady Jane
America
Only Living Boy In New York
I Am A Rock
Homeward Bound
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Try those for a start then post a bit about what you think and we can take it further.
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

Gryphon has made some good suggestion for you there but maybe if you tell us what you currently like/listen to we could also expand on that for you also??

Honestly I've not been listening to much for years, because I've been depressed, and it... messes with my interest in music quite a bit. I like songs from musicals, musical comedy, and anything with a 'happy' feel. I like a lot of Oldies pop, and lately I've been into doo wop haha.
Already a fan of the Beatles.
