quality artists...
#1
most guys tend to have a one tracked mind...always thinking about sex,me, i have a one tracked mind also....and it involves music, either searching for something new, reading, listening to, watching MTV, or simply analysing the charts from years gone by, but today at work i was thinking about artists who always seem to make quality albums and the ones i know i will get value for money from when i invest in those little shiny discs at Coreys store and i came up with a surprising list of quality artists who never dissapoint me, was surprised to find that Neil Young,Paul Weller,Paul McCartney,Elvis Presley and The Finn Brothers arent one of the artists i rated even though overall i rate them as my favourites in my playlists.
i came to the conclusion that:

Elvis Costello
Nick Cave
John Fogerty

are the only artists that i find are consistantly great in their song selection, lyrically and most importantly for getting great value for money when purchasing their albums, so who are the artists who you find match that criteria?

i find Joe Bonamassa to be consistently great, sure his first couple of albums isn't as strong as let say Ballad of John Henry, but they're definitely not bad. He has a tradition of making each album better than the previous one and for what i've heard of his new album, it seems like it will keep up with the tradition.

always takes me awhile on these lists, but I'll add more as I think of them
if I may elaborate on your definition CH
we are looking for artists who are still recording, and you would purchase their next release unheard, based only on their previous releases

I'll start with

Bob Dylan
Elvis Costello
Bruce Springsteen

aha!...i forgot Springsteen on my list, thanks mate.

yeh, i guess you could include those who you'd purchase their next album without listening to them first....but i do that with Weller,NY,Macca and the Finn Brothers also, mostly i like them but on the odd occasion they let me down bigtime and all of those have recently!

I don't know about albums (I just don't think that way) but I get consistent wows in the various left-field genres and DJ sets. Certainly nobody in the business of making plastic waffles and selling them. I think more of it as in where I got it. Nowadays it's netlabels and radio shows mostly so money doesn't enter into it, only entertainment value. Favourite net labels are Test Tube, Clinical Archives, and Bump Foot.
