DONOVAN FRANTENREITER "move by yourself" cd,2006.

like Jack Johnson, Donovan was/is a proffessional surfer...actually grew up with JJ in California and they both learned guitar together so not surprisingly there is a vague similarity in the sound/style of both artists..Donovan is IMO a bit more laid back than JJ(is that possible?), and he also delves into sweet soul sounds at times...
if i had to describe him i would he is crossed between John Mayer, Marvin Gaye and Jimmy Buffett...Marvin's sounds are throughout the first half of the album, Buffett's spasmodically through the entire album and on the last couple of tracks,well,it could be John Mayer if i didnt know better...
all up a good easy listening,laid back experience,would sound more 'cruisier' if i had a joint but i didnt and i havent got any so i guess i dipped out this time round.

MISSY HIGGINS "the sound of white" cd, 2004.

debut set from this Aussie singer/writer...
touches of folk and jazz in places on this piano based ballady album...
sort of sounds like Dido i guess,
picked up a number of Aria awards for this one, but unfortunately never equalled this debut effort, personally, i went off her when she picked up the Arias for this one...she turned up on stage to accept her awards absolutely blind drunk, and using every bit profanity known to mankind...a real let down, i guess the general public felt the same as me because he followup albums never sold anywhere near as well as this one.
the US version of this album had a slightly different tracklisting,two tracks removed(6 and 13) and another track put on in their place(unbroken). the big hit from this one (scar) was also given an alternative remix for the US fans...

KD LANG on CBC National Radio , CANADA Live concert from the Edmonton Folk Festival!!!!...man I love a live concert...highlights her signature song , Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, Heaven - Talking Heads cover, Neil Young's Helpless and Constant Craving! She has a very tight band now , The Siss Bang Boom band! Great organ and guitar accompaniment.

Hard to follow up a masterpiece, the previous Odessa, but a damn good one on it's own here, minus Robin. Would like
to say I missed him here but, ok maybe a little. The brilliant Sweetheart is my favorite, equally as good is the
cover by Mr. Humperdinck. Stop laughing, it is. Five other love tracks here to go along with it. Surprised this
album was even released here. From an English tv special of the same name. Robin had temporarily left his brothers
for some side work. I did miss that little shreak every now and then, but Barry and Maurice carry the load just
fine. Hard to believe this was the last Bee Gees album to chart in the UK until Spirits Having Flown in 1979. That
would be seven albums the boys were off the radar over there. This one only made it to #57 there, and that's with a
push from a #2 single in Don't Forget To Remember. That one could only manage a #73 here with the album at #94. An
injustice at the least.

Much prefer JT's earlier work but picked this one up for $5 since I dropped out of his studio albums after Flag I
think. Once he started having hits with covers, I was out. This 16 track compilation covers nine albums over a 20
year period (77-97). Only two songs I love, Copperline and Her Town Too with lovely harmony from J.D. Souther. Four
I don't care for at all, three of those being covers, Handy Man, Everyday, and Up On The Roof, all love tracks by
the originals artists, but can't handle James reworks. Worst though goes to his own Only A Dream In Rio. How do you
go from Sweet Baby James to that? Kudos to the man for his longevity in the biz and he has built up a loyal
following over the years. Hasn't had an album of new material in 10 years but he still shows up now and thenand
looking good except for that bald head. Hard to come to grips with hippies with bald heads. This album only went to
#97 and gold status here, as compared to Volume 1's 11 times platinum.
