The 'Secret Museum of Mankind' series on Yazoo, is the perfect introduction to the vast area of world music. There are five main volumes of early recordings - approximately 1920's to 1950's, from all around the world, plus there are regional compiliations - i.e. East Africa, Central Asia. For the curious ear then you will not be disappointed. These recordings were made at the advent of the 'music industry', and really show the regional variations which disappeared when the marketplace wanted 'one' sound. Progress is good, progress is bad.
