Not sure who came along first, Leo Sayer or Richard Simmons. They reminded me of each other. I followed Leo's career
moreso than Richard's. Leo is a brit but I see he became an Australian citizen in 2009, and his last album, in 2008
says Australian release only. Wonder what that's all about. This is his second album. I was on board from the first
but jumped off at some point, probably when disco found it's way. He was much bigger in the UK than here, scoring 5 top 10 albums there, with this one at #4, and a #16 in the US. Two singles were released here, One Man Band barely cracked the chart, and Long Tall Glasses a #9. Only one I dont like on here, Telepath, where the quivering voice is just too much. Five love tracks wipes that out though making it slip into the love ranks. This may be my favorite Sayer album.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Must have picked this up from my mom's mini-collection, or else a yard sale package. I see Mr. Williams passed away
just this past year at the age of 87. A much accomplished pianist that has 116 albums to his credit. Glad my mom
wasn't a big fan. Would hate to sit through 116 of these. Pop music piano style. This compilation doesn't even have
his biggest hit, Autumn Leaves from 1955. The only piano instrumental to ever make #1 on the Billboard pop chart.
Next biggest hit is here though, Born Free which is the only standout for me. Probably heard Rogers version before
the more well known Andy Williams version. I love either one. Three other tracks pass and the others fall flat.
Mostly because since they are instrumentals which I sing along with and I don't sound very good. Under the
headphones you hear your voice even more.

I just found this random band on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROaw8zG3RXQ
They are called State Recall and are actually really good. I think we will be hearing more from them. Don't have anywhere to download their music through I think which is dumb.

Sure seems like I have a lot of Kenny Rogers albums. I like him, but after the 70's, a compilation would do the job.
It would exclude anything from this album. There are no standouts here and the album barely passes. Kenny must have
been trying to help out some unknown (by me) songwriters as most of the songs have a different writer. Only one we
know takes the best track, Dolly Parton's The Stranger. At least the lyrics work on that one. I guess the highlight
of this album was a collaboration with James Ingram and Kim Carnes, the title track. It's ok is as far as I can go.
Hard for me to believe this was a #1 country hit. It doesn't fit. If it doesn't fit, you must call it shit. Not
really, that just blurted out. Most of the album is just syrupy 80's pop songs. Probably down there with Kenny's
worst, that I have heard.

No, I refuse to put it in country. Was never big on these guys, but country music fans sure were. Eight consecutive
#1 albums. This is the third and the groups fourth release overall. Also a #10 pop album. The group racked up the
awards during the 80's. Pop goes the country. Seriously, a synthesizer in country music? A few decent tracks on here
but nothing great, with three duds, letting the album just pass. Three #1 singles led the way, The Closer You Get,
Lady Down On Love, and Dixieland Delight. Very Special Love is the best for me, with the closer Lovin' Man taking
the worst, and I do mean worst. The down home boys could play some good country music when they wanted to. Sadly
they chose to water it down to attract that pop audience. Used to be called selling out.

MICHAEL JACKSON "off the wall" cd,1979
wanted to play this one the other week from Dani's collection but the disc wasnt in the case, so unfortunately for me my second random pick ended up being ABBA...so we went out on that saturday and i bought Dani a replacement copy...
ive never owned this one, but my lil' sister played this one non stop for several years back in the day, until Thriller came out.
this is MJ's first solo album, and the one that made him a bonefide household name hot on the heels of his discoesque hits "dont stop till you get enough" and "rock with you"...both mega million sellers and both #1 in many countries(as was this album), absolutely classy IMO, up there with Thriller and Bad as great MJ albums...little did he probably realise his world was going to spiral out of control, both musically and privately during the 1980s, but they did, and the rest is history...
one song on here is not an original, "girlfriend", written by Paul McCartney for him a couple of years earlier, but the Jacksons procrastinated over recording it, so Macca released it with Wings on their 1978 album "london town"...MJ then recorded it the following year for this one...i love MJ's version, but its hard to go passed Macca's falsetto version which i will include in the links for a comparrison for those of you who may not have heard it...!
all-up, a brilliant album by the future 'king of pop',
Dani's newly remastered version contains bonus material of interviews with Quincy Jones/Rod Temperton and several of MJ's demo's for the album.

Looks like I have a re-issue here, consisting of tracks from her first two albums. Don't have those first two, but
if this is a fair representation, I would pass. Other than the two love tracks here, there are five do not likes,
and the other three are a stretch. Four of the covers are just terrible for me, probably because they would get a
love rating by the original artists, and the change is just too drastic. The worst of those is Take Me Home Country
Roads, which it would be hard for anyone to come close to the original. My favorite is Banks Of The Ohio. Not sure
if this was released by someone else prior to Olivia. Having not heard another version, this would always be my
favorite. You always remember your first.
