ROBERT PALMER "pride" cd,1983. #37 UK, #36 AU, #112 US
dissapointing album by Palmer's standards, and the chart positions it peaked at say that also..even the single 'you are in my system' barely scraped into the top 40 anywhere..not even breaking through the top 80 in the US.
too much fluff and not enough substance IMO, just lighthearted pop music,
touches of pop, light reggae, and way too much early eighties synth sounds here for me to really like.
nothing great on here at all, but i guess it is a pleasant listen overall
surprised by the lack of links here, shame theres not one for my favourite track, but at least my least favourite is there LOL

[h=1]Banks of the Ohio[/h]From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

" Banks of the Ohio" is a 19th century murder ballad, written by unknown authors, in which "Willie" invites his young lover for a walk during which she rejects his marriage proposal. Once they are alone on the river bank, he murders the young woman.
The first recording of the song was by Red Patterson's Piedmont Log Rollers on August 12, 1927. The song has since been recorded numerous times, such as by New Lost City Ramblers, The Wolfe Tones, Henry Whitter, Ernest Stoneman, Clayton McMichen, The Carter Family, Blue Sky Boys (whose version, performed in 1936, appears in the soundtrack of the 1973 film Paper Moon), Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner, Pete Seeger, Monroe Brothers, Joan Baez, Olivia Newton-John (with Mike Sammes, in 1971, her second commercial single in the United States), Dave Guard and the Whiskeyhill Singers, Mike Ireland and Holler, and Doc Watson, with slightly different lyrics when sung by a female. The song is similar in subject to " Pretty Polly", and likely tells the same story (Both songs date from approximately the same time, tell roughly the same story, and feature a villain named "Willie").
Another not so well known version of the song is entitled " On the Banks of the Old Pedee."
Also, the song and its title serve as the theme song for, and title of, a long-running radio series broadcast of bluegrass music on WAMU- PBS and Bluegrass Country, hosted by Fred Bartenstein and produced for the International Bluegrass Music Museum, near the Ohio River in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Finally made it to the first of my end of year purchases. What can I say, I'm slow and have patience. First time
hearing this other than Chasing Pavements, which remains my favorite. Must say I am a little disappointed, though
expectations were rather high. Pretty sure it would grow to a love after more spins, but doesn't quite do it at this
point for me. Very impressed with the Dylan cover. Didn't even know Adele won Grammys from this album. The album
debuted at #1 in the UK and eventually rose to #4 in the states. Seems strange to me when someone's first album can
come in at #1. What causes that? Can't see the Amy Winehouse comparisons, but whatever. One other love track with
Right As Rain, but two that did nothing, Best For Last (must be the fret changing) and First Love.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

DEAN MARTIN "that's amore-the best of..." cd,1996.
i didnt think Deano belonged in jazz/blues, and he certainly would have been a pop artist back in the day i guess so here he is...
forget Bing Crosby and Sinatra...this guy is the real deal when it comes to crooning...numero uno IMO.
this guy can make a piece of crap sound cool when he sings it,awesome vocalist, average actor...whereas, i think Frank was an awesome actor but average vocalist..
a lot of well known songs on this one, i guess most people would at least know half of these tracks..
very good best of set by one of only a handful of singers i could listen to every day without getting sick of him, would almost certainly make one of Deano's albums one of my desert island picks...

Had no idea these guys had this many albums, 14 listed, with the last one in 2011. Pretty sure this third release is
the only one I have. Normally not a synth pop guy, but this one passes, and I love the leadoff track. A couple of
bombs, but overall a decent album. Much bigger in the homeland than they ever were here. Twenty four top 20 hits
there as compated to three here. One of those is that lead off single here of A Little Respect. Looks like this is
the album that brought them to the top of the chart in the UK, with a weak #49 here, although it has since gone
platinum, and remains their best selling album. Looks like there were two other singles, but A Little Respect did
the best, #4 UK, #14 US. The synth is a bit much at times on this album, so I think it's Andy Bells vocals that
allow me to like most of it.
