NANCY SINATRA "the very best of..." cd,2005.

to be honest i never used to give nancy a second thought, was convinced she only got where she got through her famous father, and was never really impressed with her vocals,i thought they were flat and unobtrusive to say the least....but time has changed my opinion of her and her talent, still not sure if she'd have been given the chance if not for Frank's "reprise records" label, but hey, she had numerous hits back in the day, and at a time when it was pretty hard, she had to compete with Beatles,Stones and the whole Motown thing that was happening....
also, i love Lee Hazelwood's vocal quality, i fing it to be somewhere between Nick Cave and John Cash...obviously one of those aquired tastes IMO.
anyway, all up, some bloody good songs on here, from her signature tune "boots" through to her cover of Aussie songstress Kasey Chambers' early 2000s hit 'barricades & brickwalls'.
so difficult to pick a favourite here, could have been 'these boots..','sugar town','lightning's girl',even 'summer wine', but ive got to go with 'some velvet morning' on this occasion asits always been a favourite radio song of mine...

JESSE McCARTNEY "departure" cd,2008

got this one as a freebie from Corey back in the day(radio sample 'not for sale' copy)
this is Jesse's third album apparently...
was a star on Radio Disney back in the day and like fellow Disney star Justin Timberlake he turned his hand to singing...
some nice pop sounds on here(surprising?!)....
the album reached #14 in the US, four singles coming off it also, the highest of which was 'leavin'' which cracked the top10 for him out there...
if you know that single,then the rest of the album has a similar sound, if not, you might be surprised that the guy has a bit of talent...
not a bad album but i wouldnt go out and buy another one

I think they called it bubble gum music. One of the first ridiculous genres. Focus. Don't have any other
Tommy Roe albums, but this compilation sums him up rather nicely. Contains all the hits that I remember.
Had that first hit with Sheila in 1962 when he was still employed at General Electric in his home state of
Georgia. No details as to how his discovery came about. What? Was he singing on the assembly line and a
record exec walked by? Sheila was a #1 hit in the US, Australia and Canada. Continued with moderate hits
until another #1 in 1969 with Dizzy. The last hit I recall was Jam Up And Jelly Tight a year later, but
other singles are shown up to 1976. This best of was the highest charting album of his career, reaching
#21 in the US. Love seven of the twelve tracks with nothing I don't like. That's what a compilation album
should score at. Now where's my Hubba Bubba..........wait, make it Bazooka. Love those little comics that
come with those.

Very good compilation of the early hits on her first label, United Artists. Those years would turn out to
be the height of her career. Love half of them and like the rest. No she's not a country singer. A few
country flavored tunes on here but not as a whole. Yes she charted higher on the country charts, but that
doesn't convince me. Best for me is When I Dream. The strings there are just captivating. The album hit #8
country and #62 overall here and #7 in the UK. She was such a beautiful classy lady back then. Haven't
seen here in decades, but I'm sure she hasn't lost the class. Me, I'm as beautiful now as I was back then.
