DARREN HAYES "secret codes & battleships" cd,2011
Darren was the vocalist and primary writer for 1990s duo Savage Garden who sold 27million albums in a few short years and gave us some of the best love songs/songs of pain that were written around that time...
this is Darren's fourth solo album,i thought he had only released two( tension and the spark is the only other one i was aware of)...
if you guys know or remember Savage Garden, this one has the same sort of feel and sound, only difference is that this is more synth based than actual instruments...i cant say anything on here can be called a 'classic', but its a reasonably good album from a guy from Australia who is not a traitor and lives in Frisco!
i actually have the 'deluxe' version of the album but havent played the second disc of seven tracks as yet.
also, it was actually a tough call to choose best track here between the one i ultimately decided on and the final track 'the sirens call'.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

ABBA "voulez-vous" cd,1979.
Abba....what can i say about Abba,
firstly, i either love of loathe their songs and this album is no exception with half of the tracks in the 'do not like' region of scores...
they do quite a number of styles on this one, disco, pop, rock, ballads. i like the ballads and the rock number(does your mother know), the rest i dont care for!
if i had to score on the production side of things these guys would get full marks from me...everything is crystal clear, the balance is perfect and it does sound like it could have been recorded yesterday, but alas half the songs let it down...not that they cant write, because i admire Benny and Bjorn as composer, its just the crappy dance/disco stuff i dont like..
i wouldnt say i like this album neither, but with three of the ten tracks scoring "***" it gets pushed into the like range, their harmonies on 'i have a dream' are about as good as it gets in popular music IMO, and 'chiquitita' still sends shivers up my spine when i hear it...great stuff also. then theres the Elton john-esque 'does your mother know' rock track which is also brilliant IMO,these guys never rocked better than that track.
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
worst track: as good as new
best track: chiquitita

P!NK "funhouse" cd,2008, #2 US, #2 CAN, #1 UK, #1 AU
i didnt get her first two albums(too teeny bopper for my liking!),
bought "try this"(her third), "im not dead"(her fourth) and this, her fifth album...love all three of these ones.
so she went from crappy dyed pink haired teen fan based up to a respectable mature artist over the next couple of albums...always love seeing how a singer matures over time...a mark of a good artist IMO...
this is her 'breakup' album, fresh from a split with racing car hubby, she let all her emotions and vunerabilities out on this one...
some lovely ballads here, some good rock songs also and obviously the lead off single 'so what' with its sarcastic references to other famous people(like Eminem does)...great stuff,
theres even a so-called 'tearjerker' on this one in the sad yet beautiful 'i dont believe you'...
the album sold an amazing 11x platinum here, compared with the 2x platinum in the US, whch is why she always seems to tour here on an annual basis(she s bigger here than in any other country in the world!),
her tour that promoted this album sold out a staggering 58 stadium shows here including 17 nights in a row in Melbourne...a great artist, a great writer, a great performer and most of all an amazingly down to earth person from all accounts...and someone who could sing any genre and make it sound good(a rarity for artists these days!)
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

P!NK "im not dead" cd,2006. #6 US, #3 UK, #2 CAN, #1 AU
P!nk's fourth album...
2x platinum here in Australia, single platinum status in the US,UK and Canada...)
five top ten hits here and a top thirty placing, one top10 hit in canada,,two in US and three in UK...which explains why she is regarded as being more popular here than in any other country...
only one track on here i dont like and that is that stupid "dear mr.president" song...sort of an open letter to "W" about the loss of US lives in Iraq/Afghanastan...im of the opinion that P!nk should avoid politics, its just not her style..
the rest of the album is pretty good, not as good as "funhouse" which is posted above, but still a very good album IMO.

DUSTY SPRINGFIELD "dusty in memphis" cd,1968.
England's darling of the 1960s pop scene...
made the move to memphis to record this one, mostly a good album, but not as great or 'classic' as allmusic says it is...
love the girl's voice..very forceful, strong and vunerable at the same time...good thing is though with Dusty, is that she knows how to control the power of her voice to only put into it what is required(doesnt do overboard like say Celine Dion, who i think overdoes it a lot of the time).
for the most part, a well recorded album IMO,only one track i do not like (just one smile) and thre i simply adore (links below),...the other seven are okay, giving an overall score of 2.2 for this one...
love tracks:
