ELTON JOHN "a single man" vinyl record,1978.

Elton's thirteenth studio set in a decade...and first without co-writer Bernie Taupin, guess thats why its called 'a single man'...
its still a great album though and manages to hold its own agianst his previous albums...
"part time love" was probably the biggest hit off this one, even though it barely scraped into the top30's of most countries charts, album was a flop by his previous standards also, but that doesnt mean its a bad album,it was simply released in the midst's of the whole Disco,UK Punk explosion, thus it was never going to compete...
does also contain one of only a handful of instrumental tracks that i can hinestly say i love in "song for guy", written for the record company meggenger boy who had recently been tragically killed on his motorcycle whilst running errands for Elton around London...
"big dipper",another of my favourites here has a distinct jazz/blues feel to it...good to see/hear Elton branching out of his comfort zone once in awhile...
all music only rate this one a paltry converted 1.2 on the MHRS...way off the mark IMO, a great album that deserves better!

P!NK "try this" cd,2003. #9 US, #8 AU, #3 UK, #8 CAN

...well i did try it, and i like what i tried!
P!nk's third album, and the first one i bothered to listen to and buy...
her least successful album also, only selling around 2.7million worldwide(according to wikkipedia)...yet, still managed double platinum here in Australia...
a real rocky edge to these tracks on this one, i guess the change from teenage pop queen to rock Goddess probably bewildered a lot of fans at the time,
three singles off this one also, being the opening three tracks coincidently, amazingly, only one(trouble) made the US charts and that stalled at #68 on the charts, that track made top 10 places in Australia...the other two singles pretty much made top 20 or top30 here,UK, and Canada, so looking at chart success from this album and its singles it appears that P!nk was on the cusp of worldwide domination but not quite there with this album...

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: oh my God

RICKY NELSON "the ricky nelson singles album:, cd,1979.

used to own this one on cassette, but the tapedeck decided to eat it and spit it out many moons ago...so i was glad when i managed to find it on cd the other week...
Ricky had a string of classy hits between 57-63, his career then took a bit of a tumble until the early seventies, tumbled again and revirved itself a bit in the 1980s.
i wasnt aware this guy had some 92 US charting singles over his career, so really quite prolific...
this one centres on the hits from that initial five or six years of chart success, and rightly so as they were his glory years...
for those who have never heard Ricky, a lot of his stuff was in similar vein to Everly Brothers IMO,just without the harmonies...
some great songs on here from one of pop's first real 'teenage idols'..
