Week Thirty Four......Robert Plant....................Band Of Joy

[gryphon]

Robert Plant…………………………………..Band Of Gold

When you review an album by a an ex member of Led Zepplin , one feels that there are many mixed emotions ……………will we hear Led Zep or will it be different………………………….?

Track One Angel Dance…….The answer in track one, is that Led Zepplin is a difficult mark to erase and it is still present in the music rather lake the grain in wood…..It’s good music………….it sticks in the mind and it makes one think , it is easy to listen to and still current

Track Two House Of Cards : This is a little less Zep and a bit more like a country song…..it’s a pedestrian pace and a simple lyric………………………………..

Track Three Central Two O Nine : Acoustic based music with again a country feel takes us to track three good listening but not that innovative !

Track Four Silver Rider: Slow number, simple affective lyric, atmospheric and somehow emotionally tense.

Track Five You Can’t Buy My Love: Upbeat, heavy guitar and choppy vocals , somehow he has re-written the Beatles song ……………………Can’t say I don’t like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Track Six I’m Falling In Love Again: Nice gentle ballad which looks backwards to the fifties!

Track Seven The Only Sound That Matters: Robert “Mick Jagger “ Plant, ….A Stones approach here that would not sound bad if, Mick had popped in for the duet……………maybe a project for the future?

Track Eight Monkey: A soft creeping start to “Monkey” Softly, softly catchy Monkey Robert! Interesting and involving, light and heavy at the same time.

Track Nine Cindy, I’ll Marry You One Day : Robert dons his banjo to play this one and again we borrow from an old fifties song( From Johnny Duncan ) to get to where we are going.

Track Ten Harms Swift Way: Nice slide guitar work on this slow one.

Track Eleven Satan Your Kingdom Must Come: Robert was always said to have sold his soul for Rock and Roll, perhaps now it’s time for him to pay up on this bargain……… This sure sounds like a down payment……….but who to ?

Track Twelve Even This Shall Pass Away: The final track. Back to the past sounds of Led Zep!

I guess once a Zeppelin man always a Zeppelin man……………Like a Zeppelin, he still flies and it is still slow and majestic and all come out to see the spectacle ………………but, we have moved on, and we must not forget that there are jet planes and so forth.
