Yes they certainly equalled it with Sgt. Pepper ! There's a story to be told on the Compleat Beatles documentary I believe and I may be wrong regarding the source !!! all i know is that Macca was so impressed by the sounds that the Beach Boys got while recording the album that he wanted to at least equal it with the Beatles next one...which of course was Sgt.Peppers.

personally, i have Pet Sounds and apart from God Only Knows it is a very average collection of songs!
