I usually restrict myself to officially sanctioned material.
Even with Pink Floyd, I've heard a couple of live bootlegs and haven't been impressed, so tend to avoid them. Rarities are only of occasional interest.
Who owns the copyright ? To me it's the artist and/or the publishers and/or the record company. Whoever holds the copyright has the legal right to control what's OK in the public domain, and what isn't.
