Over the years I have done many different things, which have brought me into contact with music. A result of these contacts has been that I have found interesting music but have not always been able to end up with a copy at that moment.
This has meant that later on I have had time and the motivation to try and go back and find these hidden gems.
One such Gem is ............Fine Old Tom By Tom Newman.
I first encountered this artist in the 70’s when I bought a copy of the Virgin Records sampler album “V” ( Which , if you ever find a copy is worth a listen [ Not sure if it ever made it to CD!!!!]

ON here are some excellent artist from the fledgling Virgin records empire.
Tom Newman is the producer of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells and being impressed by the tracks on “v” I set out to find out more...........
I discovered that he had made an album entitled “Fine Old Tom” but I was not rich enough at the time to buy a copy. The album sold poorly and as a result is quite collectable.
It was only reissued on CD in 1995 and then by a small CD company Blueprint. This soon sold out but carful research has inally allowed me to obtain a copy at a reasonable price.
What is unusal about this album are two things
1.
The people Tom used on the album..............Mike Oldfield.................Fredy Frith...................Neil Iness
2.
The idea behind the album: To record the tracks in as many different styles as possible.
This has lead to many different styles including Rock and Roll, reggae. Wold music, folk and several others ..............all this as are back as 1974.
The reissue has many extra tracks and these show some tracks as demos ( which ae just as charming as the final product and in some cases more so ) and some of the lost racks in various styles.
