Favourite albums of all-time

There are FIVE..Interpol, Powderfinger, Editors, Temper Trap, M83(know them but never heard them..lol)

Here you are SteveO. I’ve taken the time out to write some mini reviews for you.


Interpol’s Turn On The Bright Lights is eleven solid tracks of guitar rock. An applaud worthy fact about this album is that this was the best’s debut LP. Best track is the homage to New York City, simply titled NYC. Check out the follow-up album, Antics, if you like this gem of an album.


An End Has A Start by Editors is also a good guitar rock album, except you will find a bit more piano on some songs. Best track is the opener Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors. The Weight Of Your Love, released six years afterwards, can best be summed up as opera rock. Nearly every song features a string section. Some times it works, mainly on The Weight and Sugar; some times it’s a bit too much (check out What Is This Thing Called Love).


Powderfinger are a strong example of Aussie soft rock and Odyssey Number Five is arguably their best album. Reason being a lot of their best and recognisable songs are found on this LP. The penultimate track, Thrilloilogy, runs for over six minutes but it keeps you entertained for the whole duration. A good introduction to the band if you haven’t listened to any of their music before.


Continuing on from Aussie soft rock, The Temper Trap’s debut album Conditions is another good listen. A testament to how good this album is, I still can’t decide what my favourite track on it is. Sweet Disposition is internationally loved and it’s easy to see why. Perhaps the good thing about the album is that every song sounds different.


Finally, M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is a very unique listen. It is a double disc album, so you have a plethora of tracks to listen to. There is a lot of different sounds and instrumentation to be heard, for example one track features the sounds of a train rolling by before being overtaken but the ethereal sounds of a synthesizer. As for the real music, the main highlights are Intro, This Bright Flash and Outro (which has been used on heaps of television commercials and movie trailers). By the way, I guarantee you will want to dance to Midnight City.
