Indeed!!

Another quote from Robin is “You're only given a little spark of madness ... and if you lose that, you're nothing”. Love that snippet! Confusedmile:

Not totally sui generis; let's not forget Jonathan Winters, and Jim Carrey sure has his wild'n'crazy moments.

It's very hard to imagine someone as funny as Robin Williams was being depressed!! I was listening to the news tonight and some of the celebs were wondering why he didn't get the help he needed. Some don't seem to understand antidepressants have alot of very bad side affects. I've taken two and they made me so sick I told my Dr's nurse I didn't want anymore. Some people just can't take them. That may have been the case with Robin. What a loss for us all!! Funny how Johnny just lost control when Robin was on the show! BTW, I loved Jonathan Winters. I can see why Robin liked him so much.

its not really hard to imagine those "funny guys" being depressed really Rebel...

Steve Martin: has suffered depression for decades and is,according to the Hollywood gossip people, the most awkward, off-putting celebrity in Hollywood... they also say he is never happy when he eats out,he always complains about his meals and the service and is one of the worst 'tippers' in LA!

John Cleese: UK funnyman, responsible for Monty Python,Fawlty Towers mainly...another one like Steve Martin and chronic depressive also

IMO those guys mask their depression with humour to 'feel' normal because they dont like the way they are as people.

theres probably many others also.

Another way he masks it is by being an Appalachian banjo player. Have you ever known a truly happy banjo player? Me either.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bcO1svqh_Q << see Comment #2 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDjUp--A1lk Apologies to Bela Fleck.

I think you are right Crazy-Horse. I misspoke. I have severe depression but I have a great sense of humor. I love comedy!! It's one of my outlets along with music. BTW, y'all can call me Linda Confusedmile:

Being sick all the time can absolutely make people depressed. Robin had heart surgery, was bipolar, severely depressed, and who knows what else. Some folks just give up and feel that death is the best way to take away the pain they are in. It's sad but that is the state their mind is in. A man who lived across the street from me killed himself one night about midnight. He shot himself. He was not healthy and of course very depressed. I was up when it happened and heard the gun shot. He seemed to be a loner and stayed in the house all the time except when he went to work. Before he shot himself he took a good while off from work because he was so sick and depressed and then it happened. It still saddens me because we did talk when we met outside.
