I want to know why desert islands always seem to come equipped with fine sound systems on which to play your records, yet lack such obvious basic commodities as a simple radio transmitter.

Well, while it's probably my favourite song of his, just about every song on the album is of similar quality. It's an enduring mystery to me why he remained the eternal one-hit wonder. Of course, drinking way too much and being a pain in the arse to work with possibly had a lot to do with it. :wink:

UK 90s band Pulp released a tribute to Lind on their final album around 2001 ish..
the song had the well thought out title "bob lind" which they must have worked on or ages!
the album it came off was also produced by Scott Walker (he of Walker Brothers fame),
theres also a song on the album that makes fun (takes the piss) out of Walker.

I have only heard Sonny and Cher doing Elusive Butterfly. I like the song.

Bob Lind is good friends with Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. They have shared a stage on at least one occasion.

Said Jarvis Cocker has, or had, a regular programme on BBC; he has surprisingly eclectic tastes, considering his musical background.

I have "seen" or rather heard, one episode, that's how I know he has eclectic tastes.

I haven't caught either of those other shows. I probably watched a particular Jarvis Cocker episode because of some particular artist that I knew was going to be featured. it may even have been the one where he had Bob Lind himself on the show..

Although it's almost mandatory on the internet to pan free-to-air radio, there are shows worth listening to, and not just on the BBC or in Oz, but in many countries including the USA - you just have to know where to go to find them.
